Re: in need of some help
I have  this problem with Alex but thankfully he only hurts himself. Depending on how old he is and the strength of the Autism try and get him into some kind of activity. I recently put Alex into Karate, it has helped us so much, even his teachers at school has noticed.

I do hope that you can find a way of stopping this as Autistic kids are very different and do have a hard time understanding no and right and wrong.

Good luck sweety.

Hi there, it sounds like a very scary situation Kylie... I'm not sure where in OZ you are, or if you have already seen these sites, or had contact with these groups, but here are some links anyway...

www.autismsupport.org.au/
www.aspect.org.au/

There is also an Autism Group on Minti - perhaps you could join it and post this there too.  I am sure that they will do all they can to help you.

Cheers - Lui

Re: in need of some help

Hi,

I wrote some advice regarding some research I did regarding new help for autism which I will attach.  My friends son has violent tendecies and is getting older and stronger so she is getting worried.  The medication has not been very helpful.  You  can also look up on the internet doctors who specialize in autism.  We have a couple of really good ones here in the US, who not only try to find ways to help the symptoms but also treat the underlying problems.  I hope this is a little helpful.

NEW HELP FOR AUTISM

I have recently been exposed to the difficult task of parenting a child with autism.  My best friend is a single mother with a healthy twelve year old daughter and a ten year old son who has autism.  She just moved here from out of state and stayed with me while her apartment was getting fixed up.  I was amazed at the life she had to lead.  You never can believe or even begin to understand what someone has to deal with on a daily basis, the outbursts, repetitive rituals, fears, food choice (typically only a few of the same things everyday) and aggression.  I decided to look for ways to help her by finding other options that she has not tried before.  The most promising results have been with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT or HBO), Chelation, Clay baths to help remove toxins and a change in their diet to wheat and dairy free products.  The results do not completely cure the symptoms; however test results have showed a large improvement. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by putting the child in a compressed oxygen chamber for a number of sessions which kick start the neurons of the brain by sending compressed oxygen into the body. The brain scans have shown an increase in the child's brain blood flow pattern and shows permanent improvement after a series of treatments.  The theory behind it is that oxygen is needed for all illness to help create blood flow to tissue as well as neurons.  The chelation is used in conjunction to help eliminate the toxins and heavy metals that tend to be in the system of autistic children.  The clay baths are also used to help pull out the toxins.  Clinical test have shown autistic children have a greater level of oxidative stress. A change in their diet helps eliminate the yeast overgrowth in the body.

I can honestly say that with autism on the rise, it seems to be an epidemic; however, the most important issue should be finding a way to treat this mysterious and confusing disease.

Re: in need of some help

Sweetie, this situation does not sound good, especially when you can't watch your children 24/7......does your peditrition understand how serious these eposides are getting....the medication your son is on. doesn't sound like it is doing any good....and maybe the doctor is right, that he can't be given anymore....but maybe  a change in medication to another, might be the way to go. If not i think your son might need profession help, seek some advice through you local hospital. Especially  with you being afraid for your other child.

I hope you get the help you need.

Cheers Janice
