9 month old poos a lot!

Well, as the title suggests my baby is 9 months and does 3-4 pooy nappies per day...every day.  Is this normal?  My other kids weren't like this, they would have pooed once a day - which to me seems more normal.

He has had very slow weight gain which is being monitored by the doctor and i did mention to the doctor that he has 3-4 soiled nappies per day.  The doctor looked surprised but didn't say much about it.  I'm wondering if this would contribute to his slow weight gain and whether anyone else has experienced this.  He is normal in every other way, happy, eats fine, milestones are great....

it has been happening for a while and initially i thought it had something to do with starting solids but now i'm questioning it.

Any answers would be great  -  thanks Julie.

Re: 9 month old poos a lot!
Hi Natalya used to do a minimum of 3 poos a day until she was  about 10 months old. I finally worked out I could reduce that by cutting caffine chocolate and some other foods out of my diet (she is breastfed and has had some solids since 6 months but still wont eat a large amount).
I rally have to avoid chilli or the number of dirty nappies triples.

Hey there,
I feel a second opinion is in order!.... When there is weight gain as per age/height scale, things are normally OK....

Too me it sounds as though it could be food related, perhaps even an allergy? I recommend taking him to a pediatrician just to be on the safe side.

Regards Flossy

LOL  Julie, our kids are the same.  We just say they are full of it! lol.  Don't worry about him, he's fine.  Just don't ask me to help you when he starts putting fingers in and painting it, I'll let you know when I've solved that prob here! lol.

If he's eating well and meeting is milestones, don't worry.  His slow weight gain doesn't mean much, just that his body uses food very efficiently.

Re: 9 month old poos a lot!

My son had a BM 3-4x a day as well when he was a baby. But he did that from day 1 though, so I never questioned it. He pooped about 2-3x a day until he was about 14 months old.
