snack ideas
Hey guys.
I am really desperate for ideas for snacks for my daughter at the moment. I like to give her a variety of foods at the same time, a little bit of bad fat with heaps of good foods.
Most days she has apricot bites, rice crackers, strawberries and a couple of other fruits.... But i am really getting sick of the same thing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
P.S I won't give her anything like nutella due to the nuts in it..... Not game to try her on nutty products because i don't drive so only way to get to hosp is by ambulance

Re: snack ideas
Hi Kayla
Try making up some mini muffins... Use a generic recipe (I'm sure you'll find heaps on the net), and add any fruit that you like... We usually make apple and cinnamon, banana, and once we made raspberry and white chocolate for a special occasion. They can be frozen and thawed or heated as you need them - they are also awesome for unexpected company.
Jaydee is crazy about raisins, and he doesn't mind those fruit chips that you can get in the healthfood section of the supermarket. He is crazy about raisins, and of course rice crackers - he also likes those big round corn things (you know, like a bread alternative). I put cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes on them for him. Also, try popcorn - plain with no added butter or anything - it is a healthy snack that way.
As for fresh fruit, I am finding that kiwi fruit (no, not biased), is a great way to go. It is usually reasonably priced, and keeps fresh for longer, plus it has a very high concentrate of vitamin C. I just slice it up for MicrcoMe, and he sits down with it and a wee bowl of cheese and crackers.
Cheers - Lui

Re: snack ideas
Hi there- children at this stage enjoy differentflavours and often the first 2 -8 times you offer them they may hate it then decide they love it! Here are some healthy ideas!
* sultanas
* Hommus dip ( use the ones that are all natural) with partly cooked carrot sticks or rice crackers.
* Pitted prunes
* Lite grated cheese
* Sliced turkey or reduced fat ham
* Don't be too afraid of nuts! I started with crushed walnuts- they don't have as many reactions as peanuts ( very nervous as I was 3 hours from a hospital - local clinic was good though!) they are also very soft and not so slippery as peanuts. Katie now loves walnuts, cashew nuts and almonds( I always use natural, non, salted) I am still very nervous with almonds as they are harder than cashews and walnuts!
* pitted olives
* grapes, strawberries, sliced fruit with yoghurt to dip it in!
* Frozen yoghurt in a "kiddy cone" ( no artificial stuff)
*mini ham cheese and broccoli quiches - I use a few eggs, skim milk, diced lean ham and broccoli ( steam first ) , light grated cheeseand a few tbsps flour, pour into mini muffin pans and voila!!
* wholemeal or multi-grain toast with avocado spread on it and cut into fingers.
Hope this helps! Just a few ideas!
