What can I feed my little fella??

This might be a bit of a silly question but it is something I am having a little trouble with.  My son is nearly 10 months old and not really ready for sandwiches yet. ( I am abit over protective with choking) At dinner time he usually eats what we are having.  My question  is what do most mums give their babies for lunch? I have been giving him boiled vegies but having them also for tea, I feel like I am spending my days slaving over a hot stove. I have also been giving him baked beans but am craving some variety. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: What can I feed my little fella??

Our sons are about the same age.  Mine has yoghurt (usually i get the baby stuff), custard, the fruits and veges like others have suggested like watermelon or banana which can be chopped into finger foods, he also likes Sao crackers with things like avocado on it.

You will still probably have to monitor his eating anyway but let him have a go at some finger foods as i've found my baby is getting quite capable at feeding himself now.

Try some macaroni and cheese or just give him a piece of sandwich meat like ham, or bologna and the piece of bread. Give him some Ritz Bits with peanut butter or cheese on them. Try some noodle soup. French fries. Good luck.

Re: What can I feed my little fella??
I run a daycare and my little ones at this age is mashed potatoes, cut up bannana's in small pieces, cherrio's, noodles, cut up macaroni in smaller pieces, chicken noddle soup ( but drain the broth a bit ), puffed wheat, I guess you just have to make sure that the food is soft and cut up into small pieces and only give him a little bit at a time so he doesn't shove it all into his mouth at one time. I hope this help's some good luck!

Re: What can I feed my little fella??
I give my little one :  Mashed veggies like :  Peas, green beans, carrots, sweet potato, squash and Fruits like :  apple, bananas, pear .  When you puree the fruits you do not need to add water, but when you puree the veggies you can add brst milk  or  formula and optional you can even add rice cereal or  oat meal.   Adding sugar  to fruits is a BIG NO  No, especially at this age.  Regarding eggs your baby can have the cooked egg yolk but they cannot have the egg white before they are one year.  Even adding salt to the veggies while you boil them is not recommended.  You dont need to puree avocado and banana in the blender, just mash it up with a fork. Regarding chicken, you can boil the chicken without adding salt just plain water and once it is done you can put it in the blender and serve.  You can also give broccoli, but after you puree it, you will have to strain it and then serve.  You caneven combine the veggies for a good taste.  Boiled pasta can also be added to the boiled chicken while you puree the chicken.

Have fun with your little munchkin.

Re: What can I feed my little fella??
Eliminating bread out of the equation makes things tricky. My little one is 9.5 months and we've been giving her bread for some time (despite the fact that she's still toothless). Close supervision required when she has it. I put on vegemite, tuna spread, and sometimes I toast it with cheese. You can also bake the bread at 150 degrees C for one hour with vegemite on it and this is a great bread rusk stick for this age group. I also have one of those fruit mesh things - gives bubs the opportunity to chew on hard fruit while not incorporating any risk of choking (you can buy them at the supermarket in the baby section). I also make a batch of rhubarb, sultanas and custard with a bit of sugar in, and she seems to really like that. Stewed fruits are good for lunch too with Yogurt. Other things - Kraft Cheesesticks are a good substitute when your fed up of cooking, ready made rice pudding (I bought the mango rice cream out of the fridge and she ate almost the whole lot). Also scrambled eggs (go steady on this though as I can't remember when it's okay to give whole egg). Mashed up banana with half an avocado are a bit of a tasty treat. I also cook up some pumpkin and bacon bits and mix those together very scrummy Okay, so that's all I can think of for the moment. Oh and it's not a silly question..crikey I've spent hours pouring through books trying to find decent things to feed my little ones.

Re: What can I feed my little fella??

I know just how you feel my sons now 15 months and sandwichs are heaven so easy but befire that we tried a mixture from our foods shop bought baby foods, youghurts, custard, mouses, triffles as his teeth came through and i felt more comfortable he got bread sticks, rice crackers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets,.

But we still made alot too you get some great ideas from shop bought baby foods mac always loved fruitapura so we experimented mixed all sorts then started adding fruit and youghurt kinda like a muller fruit corner, as you can see mac had a sweet tooth like his mummy but he now has a more savory diet and is willing to try anything and everything.

Also we didnt spend days slaving away we bought some small tubs and freeze his foods after making a weeks worth then the night before id plan his meals by morning they'd defrosted in the fridge and took a min to heat up in a jug of water or 20 sec in micro ( heat sencitive spoons very good!!! mix well)

pinch ideas from anywere look an web sites like heinz, hipp organic etc

hugs jo xxx
