Fussy Bub

I have a five month old and have to go back to work in one month.  I am not keen on expressing at work so have been trying to introduce formula.  She does not seem keen, have tried to brands so far, she just seems to cry and spit it out.

Am I going to have to try everybrand on the market.  Can someone give me some advise on getting babies to forget about boobie and drink bottles.

Re: Fussy Bub

one thing i would suggest is that initially when giving a formula bottle dont give it yourself, have a partner or friend etc give them formula and you stay right away, i found with my bubs that if i gave it at first they where expecting boobie and just got upset as did i, but if i walked away and let dad do it there was a little fussing but it soon stopped!

once shes had a couple of bottles and taken to it ok then you give her one and see how it goes, i also found by expressing some breast milk and using the bottle helped get them use to the bottle but still tasted the way they expected.

good luck! and if all else fails keep feeding as you are, ive been back at work for a while now and once the initial settle down period ended my boobies dont fill up too much and hes still feeding from me and the odd bottle, plus solids very happily.

It may not be the formula at all- it could very well be the teat you are using. Some are too fast, some are too slow, Some just dont feel right.

Personally I found avent and tommee tippe the best. they are expensive, but to tommee tippee ones even have ripples on the teat to feel like the bumby surface of the nipple and are shaped basically like breasts. I had to put my youngest  on a bottle at 2 weeks, and these were the only teats he would take.

Re: Fussy Bub

It is really hard!!! Some babies hate the taste and texture of formula after having been breastfed! The taste of breastmilk varies and  the composition of changes as bub's needs change and the temperature is always just right! Not to mention the difference between a teat and a nipple!

Maybe try to express and try bub on a bottle to start with. Once she is used to the bottle, try getting someone else to give her the bottle ie: hubby or partner.

Once this is OK, try getting hubby or partner to give her a bottle of formula ( it is easier if they know the breast is not within reach!!!!)

Good luck! n
