morning sleep

Hi, I once read in a baby book that if a baby that is over 7 months old is put down for their morning nap too early they wake the next morning early.  Reason for this is that they calculate their morning sleep as part of their total number of hours slept during the night.  I know all babies are different but has anyone found this to be true ie the earlier you put bubs to bed in the morning the earlier they get up the next morning?

Re: morning sleep
Like the others say, babies take the sleep they need, and it is as hard to get them to sleep early as it is to keep them up late! I gradually adjusted my DD1s sleeptime by 15 mins a night every 3-4 days when she was 15 months, as waking up at 930am was LOVELY but staying up to 9pm didnt suit us any more. It was a bit of a rollercoaster but it did pull her bedtime to 730 fairly successfully. But it wasnt anyhting like as easy as the baby book suggested, in my experience. Some babies are very accommodating, but they're the exception!

Re: morning sleep

wow if my little man is already calculating his awake hours in that way imagine how genius he will be later on!

i truelly find that doubtful, a baby will sleep as they need to and i find it hard to believe that they have any real 24 hour clock for quiet some time, if anything maybe going to bed earlier in the evening will cause them to wake earlier next day.

i know my 7 mnth old and his sisters before him slept some days and not on others but they almost always slept from 8pm to 6 am, much the same as me! and it doesnt matter how much sleep he has during the day, hes awake at 6 to 7am, ready to start the day!

Sweety, babies sleep whenver they like it, and their routines are never steadfast. they evolve and change with the simplist of things, including the weather!

It reall comes down to your baby and their habits. Personally with mine, it has only ever mattered what time they went down at night, and not in the mornings.

The morning naps (apparently) are just so they dont get overtired and cranky during the day.

I was going to say the same thing.  My son's sleep patterns are all over the place.  I think that maybe babies with regimented routines may show some difference, but if your child is sleeping when he or she needs sleep and isn't cranky, I say let 'em sleep.  LOL
