Councelling vs. psychologist....

I raised the question earlier about my husbands behaviour (see "Please Help: Little concerned about Father's behaviour....."). Before I approach him about getting help I am wondering if anyone knows the difference between going to see a councellor vs. seeing a psychologist. Our budget is limited so finances will have to come into the decision (unless there is some way of getting help in this area also - any government help, etc with the costs - know of any???). Will both help him and we just choose, or would he be better seeing one of them specifically? Never done this before so I have no idea!

Re: Councelling vs. psychologist....
Psychologists are counselors but counselors do not have to be psychologists. A bit like a surgeon can be a doctor but a doctor does not have to be a surgeon.

The cost is different and psychologists can be expensive. Given your husbands past and depending on which country you live in, there may be mens groups available that provide help at no cost.

If you are in Australia you can visit/ring local community center. You could also try Relationships Australia - some church groups like Adracare can help - and lifeline may be able to refer you on.

If you are in Oz and want some referrals just email me. Only happy to help. I am sure there are groups in other countries that offer similar help.

cheers

Have you considered calling Medicare or going to the local branch to ask them about this?

I think Counselors are cheaper than Psychologists? Psychs have a higher degree than Counselors....?

Oh that reminds me... I need to submit my Medicare form to get the rebate. Ha. Maybe if I remember to do that I might ask them on your behalf.
