Hi everyone, Ava is now 1mo and I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea on how much and how often she should be feeding. I have started giving her an expressed bottle every night and usually get about 3-4oz. She feeds probably every 2-3hrs during the day and every 3-4hrs at night. Is this normal? Also today she wanted to feed every hour all day!!! Could she be going through a growth spurt or could I not be making enough milk? Thx in advance :)
My son is 4 1/2 months old and is still eating every 3 - 4 hrs during the day, he is sleeping thru the night (most of the time) and having 3 feeds.
When he was 3 weeks old my boy did the same as yours, wanting to eat every hour, my midwife told me that he was probably not hungry, but looking for a comfort feed because he had a sore tummy (from my over feeding him). Babies cannot tell the difference between a hungry tummy and a sore tummy. But saying this, when he was having a growth spurt i was feeding him every 2 hours for about 3 days. If you think your baby has had enough at the last feed, try to stretch her out to 2 hours and see if she settles down.
My son is almost 4m and he eats every 3-4 hrs and about every 4-5 hours at night. It's very normal for them to want to eat every 2-3 hours or more as they get hungry more, also, growth spurts will make them eat alot!!! It's a great thing as it will help increase your milk supply...
Yes, this sounds normal to me. If its hot where you live at the moment, she will definitely want to feed more often. When my kids were going through a growth spurt I would find they wanted to feed more often too.
Very normal. My twins were on a 3 hour schedule (day and night) up until about 4 months. Then they started sleeping longer at night (first about 5 hours, and now up to 7-8 hours)...but always feeds more often during the day. Now at 6 months, they can last up to 4-5 hours (but I usually just breastfeed every 3 hours and sometimes every 2).
During growth spurts, they will want to feed more (as much as every hour). In general, growth spurts happen around 2,4,6 weeks and then 2,4,6 months.
