I do this wonderful bread roll.  It's a great snack.  Take lavish bread, or you can use flourer tortillas and spread cream cheese on them.  Then put with turkey or ham, just a layer to cover the cream cheese.  Then roll up! cut them into inch sections and enjoy.  You can even dip in dressing.  My daughter loves these as they are now her sandwiches....

Re: not parenting... xmas q

I love both being in the kitchen and feeding my family and as Christmas was such a tragic affair growing up I have always make every effort to make it the best day of my familes year so I cater for everyone and it takes about two days prep but I do it buffet style so I can enjoy the day with the family and this year our two bonus packages my grandsons :-)

Snacks

roast pumpkin dip, hummus dip, cheese ball with biscuits and chips, and an assorted plate olive, smoked mussles, pickled onlions etc

Lunch

roast beef, pork, turkey breast and ham, sauted potatoes and steamed veg, salad on offer this year are sweet potato and spinach in balsamic dressing, Thai noodle, caesar potato, beetroot and bean, with stuffed eggs, plain eggs, tomatoes, etc etc I am also trying two new ventures sushi rolls with smoked salmon, rice patties. Garlic Bread....traditional and modern combined to fill the masses

Dessert and coffee/tea

Pavlova, pudding (bought that) with brandy custard, mince piec and fruitcake I make and they can drink (heheheh soaked the fruit for weeks) chocolate truffles and apricot slice.

Whatever you have

where ever you are

have a wondeful Christmas

and a great 08 to you all

Re: not parenting... xmas q

We're having breakky at home with family and then as we don't have to travel this year we a re going out for lunch so someone else can cook.

If you want a change from boring salads try these, they are really easy to make:

wombok salad....chinese cabbage...it's a sweet and crunchy taake on coleslaw (has almonds and pine nuts in it)

tomato, avocado and bacon salad

potato and kumara salad with honey mustard dressing

If anyone wants the recipes let me know and I'll post them.

Hi
We are having cold meats and booring salads by choice
Chicken Ham and Pork and prawns
Potato Salad a Garden Salad and a noodle salad
Corn beetroot and asparagus

For dessert mini pavlovas and plum pudding with custard and cream a trifle and a blacks  forest cake
Also we are having a few dips and finger foods

The idea of this is that we can all relax and enjoy each others company without being hot and bothered
It is going to be very simple

Re: not parenting... xmas q

It is difficult in our family some are vegetarians, some don't eat read meat some don't eat fish and some eat it all...

Breakfast is champers with pancakes and yummy fruit and some muslie over at my sisters while we do the pressies

Lunch at my mums is: Turkey roll is in order I think, and maybe some seafood.  Prawns etc..  We will have roast potatos, beans  etc....   I can't remember what it is either mashed pumpkin or sweet potato wrapped around marshmellows in to a ball and then backed, this is to die for.   For dessert it is the traditional plum pudding with brandy butter.  Then a cheese Platter, with some fruit.  Then tea and coffee and far too much to drink.

Re: not parenting... xmas q

We are having 2 Christmas Day meals as my sister is away with her inlaws so we are having the traditional roast pork and roast lamb (I think) on New Years Eve when she gets back. On Christmas Day we are having it here and doing BBQ Steak, Sausages and Rissoles, Baked Whole Fish, BBQ Prawn Skewers, and Salad. Then home made Caramel Tart and Baked Cheesecake for Dessert. Then the lollies, nuts, Fruit, can come out on the table.

Salad: One platter will hold the normal salad stuff compartmentalised, lettuce, tomato, carrot, cheese, cucumber, Onion, Beetroot. Then I might make pasta salad, potato salad, spinach salad- just depends on how creative I feel on Christmas morning to put it all together.
