a few problems

My daughter has a bit of a bad cough and is extremely chesty today and is breathing quite heavily. She also has spots which doctor said looks like chicken pox, but because they are only on her legs and nowhere else apart from a few on her sides that its not chicken pox. She is on antibiotics for the cough as she hasnt been able to shake it. Most of you know i am in late stages of my pregnancy with number 2, so i am still paranoid that it may be chickenpox and i am not immune.... this is 2nd opinion i have had suggesting they aren't chickenpox because she doesnt have them all over. ALSO on top of all this, she refuses to eat anything - even her favorite chocolate, she won't drink much - even her fave drink, and i have had to reduce her temp twice last night and she is very lethargic. Sorry for the length of this but does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do other than keep fluids near her and let her rest? Thanks.

Re: a few problems

When my oldest daughter was 4 she had chicken pox she had 6 externally the rest were internal as in in her ears on her nether regions etc.not overtly noticed, her brother had them also and the were confirmed so its possible that she may have them as far as I know you need to guard agains German Measles that can cause major problems.

If she is feeling unwell give her panadol as well as her antibiotice and ask her what she'd like, if its OJ, milk add a raw egg and blend well it will help boost her and you cant taste it.

Best wishes.

Re: a few problems
T hanks everyone for your comments/ suggestions.
The rash thing isnt a reaction from antibiotics as she had it before she was on antibiotics.
HEr breathing started to worry me a little bit  and she kept on refusing food and fluids so i took her to hosp.
Turns out she has croup, so yeh finish the course of antibiotics and see what happens then.
Thanks once again!

Re: a few problems
If you press on the spots, do they fade?  If not, it could be meningicocol or one of the illnessess in the same family.  Any time her temp goes over 39 degrees, you should take her straight to the hospital, especially if you have tried several times to get it down.  I do know that when I have antibiotics, I end up with a rash from it, so could be a mild reaction as well.  Hope she gets better soon sweetie.

Re: a few problems

maybe just keep an eye on the spots for now but as for her heavy breathing and temp all i can suggest to do is keep putting her in tempid baths and be sure to wet her hair as this will cool her off (the head is where the heat is released) and for the breathing you may need to sit in the bathroom with her and have the shower going so the steam can help her breathe better but just be sure not to let her sit there to long as it may cause her temp to go back up but make sure she keeps up with her fluids also, its hard i know i hope it all works out for you

good luck with your pregnancy

Re: a few problems
i was going to suggest to put the shower on and let the steam fill up the room. Great idea Nikki. I've done this with my youngest daughter, and it's helped her out with breathing big time, and has been better the next day.

Re: a few problems
Not sure about the chicken pox but if she has been on the antibiodtics for 4 days or so and is not improving go back to the doc and get strongs ones. I found with my son that the 1st broad spectrum antibiotic did not help is chest. Everyone is different.

Re: a few problems
Doing what you have being doing for emily is fine and there isnt much else to do... My only other suggestion would be only to give her tepid baths and if her temp gets too high to take her straight to A/E ....

Hope she feels better soon....
