totally agree with libby autistic children are absolutely amazing people they are so intelligent and underestimated that we are always in awe of them routine is what they crave and that is what you need.... maybe about a fortnight before get him into the routine of driving to the school looking at where he will be going talking about it on the way home and then each morning little by little so he wont notice that much gradually change that routine until he through the door making you a very proud mum with him but also yourself..... ask the school if on the last few days there is any chance he can walk into the class he will be going to see what its like maybe choose a chair where he will sit discuss whats in the room what he likes if he would like to make something for the teacher to put on the wall for her/him etc...

hope it helps

make it a fun routine. thats what we have to do with Alex. He loves school. we make breakfast fun and gettiing dressed, we talk about what he might do at school ( it is handy if you can get an idea from the teacher on her/his routine).

Kindy is very basic and very routine driven so it is great for autistic children. the only thing i would be concerned about is the other children, Alex got very overwhelmed the first few weeks in both kindy and pre school. it might be handy if you are there to for a while just as a calming for him.

Good luck

Liz
