clothing labels

My little one is going to start childcare next month, I was wondering what is the best way to label his clothes.

Do I just get a big magaic marker and write his name on his clothing or do I get Iron or sew on labels?  What has worked for you?

Thanks

Re: clothing labels

Marking pen works. After experiences with different kids, I wrote their names on the inside bottom hem of the shirts and around the elastic hem of shorts and undies etc.

Re: clothing labels

When I taught K-5 we had each parent place a full change of clothing minus the shoes into a BIG ziplock bag. They could put the child's name on the bag so that NO names had to be placed on clothing....

Now with Jackets an Sweters, I would use a permanet marker and put thei name in the tag in the back.

Re: clothing labels

I have a Dymo label maker which I absolutely love, as I have to put names (first and last) on absolutely everything, and I mean absolutely (like the lid of cups and bowls). This label maker has an iron on tag, which works well depending on the fabric. It lasts several washes (more than 10 in one of my son's blanky) before it starts to peel off. But for certain fabrics that stretch, it's absolutely useless. So, I just end up using a permanent marker on clothes (right on the label).

Re: clothing labels

I use iron labels from http://www.thatsmine.com.au/ and have had no problems with any of them falling off. They do take little time to put on, but I've found it worth it. I got a label pack from them that had clothes labels, vinyl label (lunch boxes etc) and shoe labels. I also brought shirts for Grub in the next size up from what he is so that I won't have to apply them to more clothes in a few months time.

Re: clothing labels

from experience the iron labels tend to fall off. black marker worked well for us when we had to label stuff with just a surname. Sew on can be a pain if there are lots of socks.
