logan was like that 3 and a half months and he wanted our food (too smart for his own bloody good hehe!), always offer the bottle first and then if she is still hungry give her some food. stick to the amounts recommended by your child health nurse according to the weight of your baby there is a formula to work it out but i cant find it online. the tin has averages only. logan was a big baby so he always needed more than what the tin said. she is coming up to the six month mark and at that age it is curiosity of food that they are trying to satisfy. indulge her but not for dietary reasons keep the amounts small and the textures and tastes slowly varied (for allergy reasons) so she still has all her milk and her curiosity is satisfied. mum's know their kids best, my logan is a head taller, hardly ever sick and probably doubly as strong than any other kid his age ::) feeding him earlier never hurt him... i really don't like all those standards and rarely abide by them because every kid is so different, although it is always interesting to see what others have done.

thanks so much,it is nice to hear that someone else has taken the plunge as well, she is so much happier when she has eaten and she doesnt seem dehyrated, it only really concerened me as madylin would eat and drink quite alot. its only really happened in the last couple of days, so maybe she is just going through one of those phases.

thanks so much again

Like Izzy has said, breastmilk or formula should still be the main source of nourishment.  Our 8 month old has upto 3 small solid feeds a day, but she is still having her 4-5 bottles as well.  We have tried giving her a cup of water when her sisters have one, but our carpets seem to get cleaned instead of her drinking it.

I looked at your profile to find out how old your baby is. Your baby is 5 months, right? For this age, the main source of nutrition is breastmilk or formula. This is important as it has important nutrients in it that aide in brain and eye development. Solid food is just mainly for added calories. That said, your baby should be on formula more than solid food. At about 9 - 12 months, you can start having more and more solid food.
