solids

Hi all

My 6 1/2 month old is still not taking solids well. he opens up for the first mouthful most of the time and then he is not interested. Will it all fit into place one day soon or is there a way i can encourage him to have solids. I have been inroducing each new food slowly, but he just wont take anything.

Re: solids

emm it might be what your feeding him all babys love sweet tastes but savory take a little more encouragement when my son was at that age he had rusk mushed up with milk porridge, banana and fromage frais, also you might be expecting him to take to much so young as litle as 1/2 spoon fulls is normal untill they become familiar.

Re: solids

Don't worry they all develop at their own rate he will eat solids when he is good and ready.  I used to get so stressed when my one first started I always remember giving him sliced banana and all he did was play with it, lol.  It will come in time, bet you if you gave him a choclate button he wouldn't have any probs eating that, lol.   Does he like holding things and putting it in his mouth, if he does try a bread stick for starters and once he gets the hang of that try other foods that he can hold and put in his mouth.

Re: solids

I wouldn't be trying to force him.

Just leave it a few days and try again, give him a spoon to play and experiment with.

Good Luck :)

Re: solids

Our almost 2 year old was exactly the same, and then one day, bang!  She is now the biggest eater of all our gilrs.  He is still young, and his bottle/breast feeds should still be his greatest source of nourishment.  When he is about 9 months, he should really start eating more.  You can always let him taste the foods you eat and laugh at the funny faces he pulls.  Good luck with it all.
