More Food?

Hi guys,

Although I give Aaliyah 3 main meals a day, as well as snacks, I still often find her opening the bin a number of times a day, and eating something out of it on occasion. Could she still be hungry? Could she have worms?

For example,  today she ate all her lunch, which was a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, yet she is still going into the bin. Could she need something else with it to fill her up?

Any comments?

Oh, btw she's 20 months old.

Re: More Food?

My son does this.  Probably a growth spurt. When the growth spurt has tapered off, she will probably eat very little.  If only we could learn to listen to our bodies the way infants and toddlers can, we'd have fewer weight issues in this world.

Re: More Food?

Is she looking for treats? Maybe she knows where they are or supposed to be and is hoping to find something yummy that is not lunch. She is smart and knows there is always room for sweets or treats. I think she is just looking just to see what she finds and to taste what she finds. She is probably not that hungery and does not have worms.

Re: More Food?

Maybe shes just curious bless lol , if she had worms she would have other signs, she would constantly itch her bottem at night. Thats when the worms lay their eggs the most, but if you worried take her to docs, goodluck

Re: More Food?

My daughter is exactly the same, though now she is not eating much.  I think it's a phase as they get older they want to eat less.  my MIL told me that she is growing and playing hard, so she is hungry more, but soon she will eat less, and it's true.  Now at 30m almost, she hardly eats....I have resided to let my girl eat whenever she tells me...I like the others for them leaving a plate or something out for their babies to grab from it...And our trash is in a closet, so she climbs the counter to get food, lol.  I think she is just extra hungry...Good luck!

Re: More Food?

My 18/19 month old will have a half andwich, yoghurt, a muesli bar and maybe an apple within a 2 hour priod. If she is a really active toddler then then she needs it for energy. btw my son is also within the right weight to hieght ratio to be classed as healthy/fit. so its not that he is overweight. He is so active during the day I have trouble keeping up with him. Doesn't sit still for a minute. So if your daughter is the same way I say feed her more. On the other hand If she isn't so active and a little calmer then Matbe I would consider worms or maybe evn just fast metabolism. If you are concernd see a child health nurse or your gp. Even if it is just to ease your mind. Hope this helps.

Re: More Food?

Hi

Welcome to the world of bin feeders

Do you think she cares if there are germs in the bin

Move the bin is the only solution

My friend's child snacks on grass hoppers moths cochroaches etc.  Very well fed child but these are what he enjoys.  Gross yes but what do you do

Have fun and know it could be worse.

Re: More Food?

Sounds like you have a grazer, rather than a chomper,LOL. I have one of each. Caty, the chomper, will eat big meals and a couple of snacks throughout the day. Ruth will eat untill she is not hungry, then is hungry again in 1/2 hour. When she was little the health visitor suggested leaving a plate with fruit, cheese and rice cakes for her to graze through, between meals. It worked, whenever she felt like a nibble she went to the plate. She had a little box that had nibbles in whenever we were out and about. It did not put her off her meals, infact she started to eat more at meal times and gradually left off the plate. Hope this helps.

Luv,Winnie.xx

Re: More Food?

with my angels i gave them a sandwhich and fruit for lunch. i come from the polsify (sorry bad spelling) that if there is food left they are full if it is all gone they are still hungry. with things like apple they can have a squirt of lemon to stop going brown. most stuff can be put in the fridge for later. try to always give fruit and nuts and stuff like that. I got into the habbit of chips and bad foods and it took me a year to stop it.

good luck Pia

Re: More Food?

Hah - at this age they are food orietated - everything goes in the mouth and they have a great memory for knowing where the food is - bin, fridge, cupboard. I have an eight month old and 20 month old - they both eat everything in site - trouble is, the 20 month old likes to dump her food over the side of the high chair and the 8 month old knows it and head there as soon as she gets into the dining room.

Move the bin is the simple solution - show them there is more food in the fridge or cupboard - they willspend all day trying to get in - which is fine - until they learn how - hopefully they are old enough to know better by then.

fatten them now = by three or four you will struggle to get food into them

:)

Isn't it nice to know your little one is no different to everyone elses?

Re: More Food?

Talk about having a memory for where the food is - all I have to do is make a little noise in the kitchen at times (even if it's not food related) and she comes running in saying "ple" (her word for "please", which she says when she wants something!)

Re: More Food?

Sounds like she is a growing bubba lol.... When mine were that little,  we used to give them at lunch time, a yoghurt, sandwich  and a piece of fruit  . and also a cup of water.

I also offered morning and afternoon tea as well....

Re: More Food?

My little one is at the same age and she would eat all day if I let her!

She has her 3 meals a day but numerous snacks.

You could offer her more, if she doesn't want it then she won't eat it but its always worth a shot.
