breastfeeding

My daughter is 8 months old and i want to start prep myself for the process to get her off of my boob. i am unable to pump for some reason so that doesn't help. i have tried to get her to take formula but she out right refuses. she does eat her three meals during the day. i am really worried about this.i want her off my boob as soon as she hits one year old. she drinks from a sippy cup also. i just worry about her transitioning from my boob all the time to no boob at all. How can i do this?

Re: breastfeeding

my son was 9 months old when i decided to take back my body. I got a toddler bottle (tommee tipee) with a square spout as this was as far away from a bottle as i could get (without going to a cup, as i didnt want to start bottles then), this bottle did not leak when tipped up either. my son was happy to have this but it took many many trials of different formulas before i found one he didnt spit straight back at me. When we found a formula i would cuddle him as i would normally to breastfeed and then offer him the bottle first and when he had decided that he had had enough of that i gave him boob. At first he would only have a very very small sip of formula then reject it but with each feed he would have more and then finish with the comfort of boob. I decided to to it this way as i am too much of a softy and could go could turkey with him. It took two months for him to totally wean but he did and quite happily. hope this helps.

Re: breastfeeding

first finding a bottle she will take is the hardest part. i used avent bottles. with charlie is just gave them to her, at first she didnt like but but after awhile they give in. if she is on sippy cuts i would bi pass the bottle unless she wants one at night. i used to give my daughter one to take to bed.

Re: breastfeeding

The way i did it with brodie was that i always got my partner to help give him a bottle, and use Nuk teats as they are in the shape of a breast.. If you have no partner, could you have someone come and help u..

The other way is to offer the Cup more later on, and cut back on the feeds,... eventually he will wean himself off when he knows its not going to be offered to him all the time.....

Re: breastfeeding

The way I have done it with both my boys is to slowly cut back the breastfeeds, and introduce cups of milk. I have introduced cows milk but my boys were older - one was 10 1/2 months when I started and the other 11 months. The youngest is now 12 months and has a breast feed morning & night & 1 or 2 cups of milk during the day - with his lunch & when he gets up from his nap. I will be cutting him back to just a breastfeed at night soon & giving him a cup of milk with his breakfast, then eventually doing the same at night. The best way to go about it is to do it slowly so they don't really notice too much. Good luck!
