vasectomy

i asked 'the snip' question a couple of days ago...

and just to add i'm 32, he's 34, we have 2 children, aged 1 and 4, and i have miscarried, and get PSD in pregnancy.

he wants more children but i'm not sure...

when he mentioned the snip he said it in such a way that made me unsure!!

i've heard multiple pregnancies are more common in your 30's, and this worries me, as does the risk of losing another baby.

what should i do? should he be snipped?

Re: vasectomy

I think you should sit your husband down and really find out what he wants. What are his honest feelings?

I had my daughter at 35 and she's a healthy and happy camper. I do plan to have another child if G-d allows us for one, but I made real clear to my husband what my feelings were. He gave me the "I don't know, what do you think" schpeel...so I painted a picture of our future ( a realistic one, and he ultimately told me that one more would be the final hoorah.

I needed to hear that from him and now I am relieved that I can at least plan for one more. I absolutely drove him mad to find out what he felt (so I know what you are feeling to an extent). It was important that my husband NOT say things to protect my feelings because in the end I want no regrets.

I just think you should try first weaseling out what your husband really wants. He does have a concrete answer deep down inside.  Someone also mentioned you two seeing the doc about it and that's a great idea too. Good luck!

Re: vasectomy

Firstly the idea of multiple births being more common in your 30 is wrong - it is based on genetics & also can be caused by hormones if you are having trouble conceiving & have to have hormone shots ets. As for the vasectomy - if you are unsure whether you want more children or not then I would say 'no' until you are positive you do not want any more. Maybe you could get an IUD put in or have an Implanon put in your arm instead until you are sure.

Re: vasectomy

i think a vasectomy is a biiiig step when u arent sure if you want more children.

ive had miscarriges b4 and i understand where you are coming from with the fear of that. i had decided on no more children ever then fell pregnant by accident last year i was TERRIFIED i had post natal depression with my daughter and there was NO WAY i wanted to go thru all that again, it was a gard pregnancy and i was afriad almost the entire time and then i had my lil boy and i wouldnt change it for a thing!

with the multiples, the stats with that are due to IVF procedures and genetics.

Re: vasectomy

Hi honey,

Firstly let me assure you that your belief of multiple pregnancies are more common in your 30's in not true . .  Multiple pregnancies are genetic and have nothing what-so-ever to do with age . .

Secondly you seem to have answered your own question . . . "If in doubt go without" By this saying I mean that if you have doubts about any decision especially one as serious as this then the best solution is NOT to do it until both you and your partner are ready . . .

I am talking frmo experience here . . In my twenties I had my tubes done as at the time having more children was not an option or so I thought . . In my 30's I sought a reversal, this was a very complicated and painful procedure and only strenthens the saying "If in doubt go without"

Cheers Kellz

I just think that if you have ANY doubts at all, don't do it. You can go and talk to your doctor together about it and look at all your options.

Re: vasectomy

This is a desicion only you and your partner can make. The fact that you are unsure if he should go ahead with the vasectomy, would say to me dont do it. At 32 and 34 you are still young enough to decide to have more children in a year or two. I was 41yrs at the birth of our last daughter and really enjoying being an older Mum.

Re: vasectomy

I dont know what PSD is but i assume it is something to do with pregnacy that isnt too great.

Can you go on the depo shot or have the IUD or something like that instead.

Re: vasectomy

Did the answers the other day not help?  When we fell pregnant with number three, it was a no brainer for us but i am 40 and hubby 40+, even so the doctor said that they usually recommend your baby is over 1....at the time ours was not.  Three children is very hard work and as you get older there is higher risk of birth defects...sorry don't know about multiples.
You really need to talk this through with your partner and decide together, if there is any doubt in your mind maybe you should seek alternative contraception for now.
