is it time for a big girl bed??

I think my daughter is throwing up to get out of sleeping in her crib! This has been going on for about a week or maybe a bit more. I think she got the idea when she had that flu bug. I let her sleep on the guest bed until her matress had been washed. Now every couple nights (and getting more frequent!) she throws up, cries, and depending on if I'm already in bed, I either take her into bed with me, or put her on the guest bed.

She did it again tonight while I was in the tub, not 30 mins after she'd been put down. Now she's peacefully sleeping on the guest bed.

She doesn't seem sick at all during the day, it's only after she's been put down.

She has a convertible crib, so I could change it into a bed no problem... but she's 20 months old... is she too young for a regular bed?

If she can climb up and down from a bed with ease then i say give it a go! My daughter used to be a terrible sleeper until i put her in a regular single bed at 21mths.

Re: is it time for a big girl bed??

I was going to post a very similar q. My 19 1/2 month old boy is stipping his mattress, pillow throwing everything out of his cot, and just plays. He even folds the mattress in half and I am surprised he hasn't got it out yet. I am considering moving him to a big boys bed in the next couple of weeks.

Re: is it time for a big girl bed??

We have a little one turning three soon, and he was getting uncomfortable in his toddler bed, so we switched him to a twin with trundle.  WELL, my 18month old got pretty peeved and started throwing everything out of the crib and then fussing for us to come in for him.  We decided to just pull the trundle out and give it a go.  He LOVES it, but he did get out of bed for the first week or so.  Now he's fine, and their room went from the nursery to a regular kids room WAAAAY to fast for me.  Anyway, I think that it's a good idea to try to switch her.  Aren't kids clever!?

Re: is it time for a big girl bed??

I would say she is ready for the 'big girl bed'! My oldest was 15 months when he went into a 'big boy bed' - we had another bub coming in a few months and he liked sleeping in the bed so we let him go in there full-time. We did get a bedrail for him to use but he didn't really need it so by 18 months we took it off. If she likes the bed I would convert her cot for her and see how she likes that. Good luck!

When your daugher is ready is something that you will have to decide for yourself. You'll have to get bed rails to avoid falls. Either that or put the mattress on the floor. Unless your crib converts to a toddler bed?

Also, with beds, your little one could wonder around. So you have to baby proof the room and put a gate on the door so she doesn't wander into places that aren't safe.
