Where do I go about finding childcare...?

Hi,

I have a 12 month old baby girl and I have enjoyed this year off. I recently got offered a 12 month contract to fill a friend’s maternity leave starting April in the CBD of Sydney. I still have to apply for the job so it's not a guaranteed position but it got me thinking about going back to work anyway. I tried daycare once before for one day a week when my baby was 9 months and she cried so much they rang me after an hour to pick her up, she is not difficult but she is very vibrant and I felt they were not experienced to deal with the situation and expected all the babies to feed, sleep, play. I feel she will be better in a family day care situation because maybe it was to overwhelming at the centre, I am hoping she will be better because I can't afford to stuff the new job around if I have been recommended by a friend and of course I want her to be happy as well. My questions are..

Where the heck do I find family daycares? Through the council...? I live in Bankstown shire NSW

What is the average cost?

How can I adjust my daughter for this transition....?

Can anyone recommend one that has a placement? Willing to pay up to $100 a day.

Re: Where do I go about finding childcare...?

hello

i have both my girls in family daycare which you just ring your council and they will put you through to the right place . now my girls go three days a week i pay $2.00 a week so really $1.00 each now i am not working i was going to but then found out i was preganet so i use the days when there at care to rest . maybe put her into it before you start the work and stay with her a bit and then get her use to it . now yes you have to provided nappy and ther food and bottles if they have it or a drink but as i see it you know what they are eating as you prepared it . my oldest is 3 and when she staeted i could hear her cry as i walked home and i kept pursuing with it it broke my heart but she loves going now . but now it is my 1 yr old . but i keep pursuing with her and she is fine with it . the best thing as you get three familys to pick from and you pick yourself which one will suit your daughter . in a way you interview them but the thing is you have to ring the two you dont want and say sorry you didnt get it and the one who did you let them now

any more info just minti mail me

Re: Where do I go about finding childcare...?

Your local maternal child health centre should have some answers for you.  Mine in Melb has a list of family day care in my area.  You could also try the council they should help.

When you get a place you could try spending the day with her there and the next day leave for an hour then the next day 2 hrs slowly introduce her to it.  This should probably help with the transition.
