re: Baby rolling over and waking herself up

Hi Everyone, just a quick one....

My 7mth old DD has been able to roll right over for a few weeks now, but can't roll back. The last 2 nights she has been rolling over in her sleep (which I'm not terribly worried about because she puts her head to the side to breathe), but where she would normally wake up and just go back to sleep, she is now waking because she is on her belly. I find it very difficult to get her back to sleep because she is so awake.

Will she get used to it and go back to sleeping right through?

Should I do anything to stop her rolling at night?

Any tips would be most helpful

I feel like I have my newborn back and its driving me nuts after getting used to wonderful full nights sleeps.

Re: re: Baby rolling over and waking herself up

Hi honey,

I went through this with my youngest daughter and she would wake very distressed from being on her belly so I began to use a 'sleep positioner' so that she couldn't roll in her sleep . .  I found this was a life saver and once she was rolling over and back again very easily by herself I slowly weaned her off the positioner . .

Good luck

Cheers Kellz

They all go through it.  It is actually the next step to crawling.  If you would like to encourage her to be able to roll herself back, then give her lots of tummy time on the floor.  Place interesting toys and objects just out of her reach, and she will roll to get to them.  Better have a play pen, as from there, they really take off!

Your baby will get used to this. Right now, the whole movement is new so she doesn't quite know what to make of it.

Does she cry when she's on her belly? If not, I suggest just leaving her alone. She will eventually fall back asleep.   If she cries, you may want to think about a sleep positioner or a rolled up blanket. But be careful with using a blanket though. It may unroll or your baby may just roll over it and it may cause suffocation risk.

Re: re: Baby rolling over and waking herself up

Hi Thanks for all the tips.

I give her lots of tummy time and she is nearly crawling. She gets up on her knees and rocks, but she hasn't quite got the hang of rolling back yet.

I tried something, I dressed her warmer and took her out of her sleeping bag. She woke up the first night and then slept right throught the next two. I then tried the bag again and she woke up. So I think I may have found the problem. Im thinking she might be getting twisted up. Ill keep experimenting and Im sure she will be fine. I'm getting a bit used to it now.

Anyway thanks again
