Usually on the front of the packet they indicate that the test is 99.9% right which leaves a factor of 0.1% for mistakes. If you put that into how many pregnancy tests they produce that could be 1 in a 1000. Every time I have wanted to fall pregnant I have always bought two just for safety. If you do two tests and one is positive and one is negative buy another two tests. Better yet go to your doctor and get a blood test and that will 100%. Good luck.
I am under the impression that a pregnancy test measures hormones that are only present when you are pregnant therefore if you have a positive result you are pregnant but you can get a positive result if you do a test within 6 weeks of giving birth as the pregnancy hormone can still be present.
In short if you haven't given birth within the last 6 weeks and you have had a positive result then you are pregnant, if you feel that you need an absolute definite result then go to your doctors and ask them to do a urine or blood test to confirm it. In the UK the doctors do not do a test there and then it will have to be sent to the local hospital lab which may take a week to receive a result back.
The simple answer here is YES . . . My 22 month old is living proof! ! ! Heck If I'd believed the negative result than my pregnancy was not real and she is a gift from god . . Except that the morning sickness and large belly gave me away, that and my teenage daughter who noted that I hadn't had bad PMS . . .
Try going to the Doctor if you have any doubts . .
False positives are possible but are very very rare and usually only under exceptional circumstances. For example; certain hormonal drugs/treatments, fertility treatments, etc, may on rare occassions give a false positive. This should be mentioned on the instruction sheet contained in the test package.
I have done a fair few tests in my time, and when they have been positive, they have not been wrong. When they were negative, and I still felt pregnant, then i waited a week or so to redo the test. Usually a positive. In all, unless there is a fault with the test, then there will not be a false positive. By the way, faults are very rare and usually the test just doesn't work if there is one.
Hi there and congrats, from what I have heard it can give a false neg but not usually a false positive.I did home preg test with my last 2 and they were both right.Good luck .
I've heard of a bad batch of tests coming out where this can be the case. I heard this happened with clearblue easy a bit ago. The reason being the hcg threshold is sometimes too low. Since HCG is always present in the urine, if the threshold is low like 4 (as in case i heard) it can make a false positive. This is very, very rare. Though, you can read more about it at peeonastick.com.
