Pram for Disabled Child and newborn

Hi I have a 3yo disabled child and baby on the way.  My little girl has a specialised pram because she cannot sit up properly. The pram can take a toddler seat (which I have purchased) but the new baby will not be able to use this until it is 6-8 months old.  I need a new pram in the interim that can take both my tall 3yo and a newborn.  Anyone out there have similar situation?  I have looked at Valco & Phil & Teds prams but unfortunately these aren't tall enough for my daughter.  Any advice would be helpful.

What about a sling/pouch for your newborn until they are old enough for the toddler seat? I found my sling quite comfortable until my bub was about 6 months.

Have you tried asking your local Disabilitly Services for any advice?  Surely they deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Hi Arna,  thanks for replying. I have been in touch with our local disability service - they are who provided the specialised pram that I currently use.  Unfortunately, other than buying a conventional 2 child pram there is no current option for siblings other than older children - not so much newborns.  But I'll keep trying! :)

Hi Susie

This babylove tandem lite model says that it is for from birth to 20kg.

The graco stadium due is also a good sturdy looking model for birth to 3yrs. (It looks really nice actually, and not too pricey).

Then there is the peg perego aria twin...It is a side by side model, but it states that it is suitable from birth to 4yrs, and it is on sale at babies galore.

Why don't you email or get on the phone to some of the larger suppliers, and get them to do the research and get back to you.  There may be a model available that they don't list.

Best of luck with it, Lui.

How much does your little girl weigh?

Re: Pram for Disabled Child and newborn

Thanks for Replying Lui - my little girl is tall (94cm - she has long legs) and around 13kgs.

I have been to Baby Bunting today and tried her in a few prams but as I said - she is too tall for either of these if I use the rear seats for the newborn.  I liked the Valco Doubletake, but her legs were too long for the rear seat and the back of the front seat is not high enough for her (she doesn't sit up properly yet).

I will take your advice and ring around to the larger baby stores, thanks for your help.

Sue.

Re: Pram for Disabled Child and newborn

Anytime Suzie, it really is about time a manufacturer took advice from mother's and started designing functional products.

I am sure that there are many parent's with taller kids, or children with special needs, if you want to go a long way, you need a pram that will accommodate larger kids, and with better quality wheels and axles too.

Good luck, and if you find something good, let us all know so that it can help someone else too.  Maybe you could document how you find the perfect product, and write some advice on it if you have time.
