Hi guys!

just a quick one, Do you think its bad to have  a tv on at night for your child? Annaliese wont fall asleep unless its on. She doesnt need the sound but want it mor for the light! I have tried just using a light but she wakes and want TV on and falls straight back to sleep.

What are your thoughts?

I got Mya this fake fish aquarium thing. Its a light but has all these fish that swim around in it. Maybe u could try something like that. Or maybe one that plays a song

Re: tv or a 3yo!

Personally I have never let my kids have a tv in their bedroom. I don't agree with it. My eldest now has music playing all night, but that is all. And if he starts staying up late to listen then it is removed. I had enough TV time during the day so that they didn't need it at night.

I know of others who do have it on, and their kids are fine. It is just a personal thing I think. If you like having it on for her then do it. So long as when she starts getting older she doesn't lay awake watching it and not sleeping.

Re: tv or a 3yo!

You may have already tried this but what about a 'crib' light. Some of them are sound activated and play music/womb sounds when activated. So if she wakes up and wants noise its only on for a little while and you may not even be needed. We all have our routines for going to sleep, i too need noise only my chosen noise is the fan (not a good habit in winter). Good luck and go with what you feel comfortable with and what works for you.

Re: tv or a 3yo!

Hey there! If it was me, I would try really hard to get her out of this habit! It's just that they don't sleep as deeply with the flickering screen and non predictable sound. I know myself if I fall asleep watching TV, I wake up often when a show changes or there is a loud noise on a show etc...If possible, try a CD player and play some music instead. My 3 1/2 year old has just decided she needs a light on when she goes to sleep and she has always had classical music ( I just put on repeat the track she likes best!) One night while we were away on holiday, she fell asleep in the hotel room watching TV. She kicked up a stink for the next 2 nights about wanting to watch it when she was going to sleep. She even started on tomight about wanting to watch TV. I feel she watches enough during the day and will not let her do it! But if you feel it helps your daughter sleep, then that is your choice. You know your daughter best and know what works for her. Everyone is different - I know my Mum has to have the TV on to fall asleep and sets the timer on it so it doesn't then wake her up!

Re: tv or a 3yo!

personally i would try and get her out of this. but that is my opinion. my mum (52) and sister (21) cant sleep without it and it is a pain for other ppl. you could try a radio and a night light.

Re: tv or a 3yo!

Hey i had a tv on from the age of 7 i think. To this day i cannot sleep without a tv on.For 1 i need a little bit of light, also so i can see if i need to get up cos i wont sleep near the door and 2 i need a little bit of noise so that i dont hear things and scare myself.I personally thinkits fine for her to have a tv on,as longa s she is getting sleep then i think its fine and as long as you dont mind the little extra on the electricity bill. Also if it helps her sleep and she wont sleep without it then i guess it has to be on then.Just my opinion anyway.
