Re: when did your baby move??

With Molly, I felt her move way earlier than with the other 4  (I'm 27 weeks now) - but she seems to be quite stubborn when it comes to moving. There's a lot of internal kicking that can't be felt through my tummy but when she decides to let loose, a flurry of kicking and jabbing is always reassuring...and a bit painful. There's certain things that seem to get her to move more - if I'm taking a bath, play loud music, or if Meghan talks or sings to her, drinking Mountain Dew seems to wake her up sometimes too. The nurses told me to gently push on the sides of my tummy, jiggle her a little bit, rub, etc. to get her awake and that works for the most part.

She's managed to scare me a few times by not waking up when I've tried EVERYthing to get her to move and we've made a few unneccessary trips to the doctor and the hospital because of it. I've also noticed, when having an ultrasound, that there are a few moves and kicks that you can SEE but you can't feel - she still has enough room that some of them still go unnoticed.

Re: when did your baby move??

You are still at an early stage of feeling movement, especially as this is your first.  Your baby will move around the womb at liesure and lay how he wants to.  Sometimes your belly will be all out the front which is him laying up and down probably with his back to your belly button.  Other times, your belly might feel as though it is all out the sides, and this would be because bubs is laying sideways.  And of course, there is everything between! lol.

If you want to encourage bubs to move, you could try laying on your side,  and roll your belly over further.  Mine have never liked that and always told me so! lol.  One of my clinic visits with my last baby, they wanted her to wake up so they could monitior movements, but we are talking 40+weeks here, so what did they do?  Gave me strong cordial and ice chips.  Instant results!  Shame I was busting to go to the loo by then and I wiggled more than bubs did! lol. Anything super cold in your stomach will make him move because it is a quick temperature change and cold at that! lol.

Re: when did your baby move??

Hey Dannii

I felt Austin moving from about 20 weeks too, but not very often. The further you go along the more you will feel him kicking, and moving and rolling...

Generally to begin with, i would only feel him moving when i was laying down or when i wanted to go to sleep. The as we went along, it got to be all the time, even when i was working (much to my workmates pleasure)

Re: when did your baby move??

I felt both mine at 13 weeks.  And it was the coolest!  They will get stronger and stronger, and depending on what they are kicking will determin how well you can feel it.  But when they get bigger, say past 30weeks, not matter what they do it's a party inside.  Don't worry he's fine, and soon you'll be wanting him to stop, lol.  Esp when he is inside youre rib cage, or on your bladder.  My babys would move when I pooked them, drank soda, or laid down to sleep.  It was really cool, the best part of being preggy!

Re: when did your baby move??

we felt Alex move @ 20 weeks and i was lying on our bed and Chris next to me with his hand on my tummy and Alex kicked Chris's hand clean off my tummy. from  then on he responded to Chris's touch and always moved whe Chris touched my tummy.

Charlie was 17 weeks and just did summersaults all the time ( nothing has changed now with her) she moved all the time and sometime made me more sick. Once she got her foot i assume stuck in my ribs for a few hours. that was very painfull.

Re: when did your baby move??

Hi Danni,

With my first baby l didnt feel him until after 20 weeks. With my second, third and forth around 18 weeks l felt them move. But with my fifth l felt him move at 11 weeks - fluttering . With all my pregnancys it was food and cold drink that got the boys moving during the day, at night its my hand espically now lm 36 weeks and when l put my hand on my belly he kicks hard.

If you are worried your midwife/ob doc will give you a kick chart to do. With my first the midwife kept me on kick charts cos he was not moving much - that l noticed.

Hugs Heather xxx

Re: when did your baby move??

This is my second baby so I felt flutters at 14 weeks. However, I only started feeling the kicks externally at 19 weeks and DH was able to feel it the other day too. I think it was 20+ weeks that I felt kicks externally with my first one.  The baby usually moves after I eat and I usually eat spicy food. But ice cream helps too.

Re: when did your baby move??

I felt my son move around 17-19 weeks. I didn't know what it was at first.   With my twins, I felt them move at 12 weeks - earlier this time since I knew what it felt like, and since there were two in there, it's a bit more crowded and easier to feel the movements.

Generally, women feel movements around 20 weeks. The baby floats around and moves around long before that but some first time moms just don't notice the movement at first.

It is understandable that you would feel your baby move when you're on your back or just when you're just still. You're not doing much and notice all the little movements in your belly. When you're busy moving around, it's harder to notice anything.

The top of your uterus should be around your belly button (or slightly above) so generally, anything you feel below that point would most likely be the baby. As your baby gets bigger, it'll be easier and easier to tell movements. You'll reach a point where you can just watch your belly and SEE your baby move.

Babies are more active shortly after you eat, drink cold water or eat sweet stuff.

Re: when did your baby move??

I forgot to add that babies usually sleep when you move around because the movement puts them to sleep. And when you decide to rest and sit down or when it's bedtime, they generally wake up then.  My son was this way. During the last few months of my pregnancy, he moved so much shortly after I lie down for the night and kept me awake. My husband enjoyed it though. He would lay his hand on my belly to feel the movement just before he went to sleep.
