My friend's baby has plagiocephaly and I am not sure she is aware of it. I was wanting to know, how can i tell my friend that her baby has it, without freaking her out and that there is physio treatment available for it!
rhiannon had a flat head for a bit till she could get up. it looked worse than it was on her because she has a giganto head. it kind of corrected itself, but i know that in some cases it affects the neck. i would recomend just asking your friend if baby sleeps on one side all the time. dont use that big word, it freaked me out when i heard it for the first time LOL! just let your friend know that it has become more common since all the hype about sids in the early nineties and can be corrected. ::)'s from becca!
My twins had plagiocephaly. I discovered it when they were 9 weeks old. Thankfully, with the repositioning technique, they didn't need to be banded (helmet).
One thing about flat head, it's easier to see from the top, on the mirror! Maybe perhaps you can somehow wander in front of the mirror with her baby and then tell her that you notice that her baby's head isn't as round.
Also, I just wanted to add that if the plagiocephaly is caused by the shortening of the neck muscle on one side (torticollis), then stretching exercises are usually done. But the stretching won't address the flat had. How old is your friend's child? Is the plagiocephaly severe? I have a picture of a severe flat head on my advice, is it anything like that? Severe flat head will not go away on its own, especially if the baby is older (9 months and older).
