What to do???

I would really love some advice because I just dont know what else to do.  My son is 13 months old and has always hated having his nappy changed.  There has never been a reason to hate it besides the normal reasons like interupting whatever  he is doing (which might just be nothing...) Anyway, almost EVERY time I lay Jordan on the change table I get so many screams, cries, kicks and fighting for me to not pull those pants down. I have heard this is quite common and I have tried new toys, distractions and yelling at him but nothing seems to help.  Has anyone found the secrect to chaning their little ones behind??? Please help as the older he gets, the harder it is getting.

2 words!  Tickle time!  Make a game of it, get him to help you by wiping his own bottom with a wipe, after you have done it of course!  He is old enough to be introduced to the potty now too, so you could give that a go.

Re: What to do???

mine didn't like his wipes either.  I think his bottom was sensitive and the small bit of alcohol-like substance really annoyed him.  The washclothes seem to do the trick now.  They don't smell as nice, but the job gets done.  LOL

Re: What to do???

I had the same problem. What stopped it was something I would never have linked it too... I changed from wipes to face washers wet with hot water. I don't know if it was because it was warm, or if the wipes were stinging his butt but he suddenly stopped crying!

Re: What to do???

Have you tried changing him on something other than the change table. For some reason he may not like it. Just change him on the floor near where he is playing or whatever for a little while and see if that changes his opinion.

Re: What to do???

My son was the same and sometimes still is... Could it be the the bum wipes are too cold???

I found changing him while standing was very good.. Although it does not do too good when you have a poo.. So for that I just laid him on the floor.. I gave up on the change table...  I found that it got easier if I just told him to lay down.. Does not always work a charm, but found it worked better..

Good luck..

Re: What to do???

Yes, this is very common at this age. They are just way too busy to be bothered.

Have you tried pull ups? You can change your son while he is standing up (but not with poop of course). Or you can try getting good at using regular diapers and change while standing up too.

Re: What to do???

have you tried sticking glitter stickers to the backs of his hands b4 changing him?

it only works for distraction if the stickers are ONLY used for change time.

give it a go anyway i feel for you!
