HELP HELP PLEASE

Ihave a ten month old little hannah, who is still not sleeping threw the night and can have up to four bottles during the night.  She still has morning and afternoon nap and is in bed by 7pm with a bottle.

I tried cutting out the naps but she is still waking threw the night, as I am a part time working mum I am finding it very hard with out any sleep.  So any ideas would be great.

 thanks

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

Well, I went through this with Harrison.  It is likely the comfort of the bottle and a full tummy that she is seeking not the actual food itself.  It is similar to a  baby who wakes to find a pacifier or breast feed.

In my opinion, you need to stop the feeds.  You don't have to do it full on cold turkey, but you need to stop it.  I would suggest reducing the amount of milk you give then to cut out maybe the last bottle then the middle bottle then the first bottle then the remaining...if that makes sense.

You may have to use other techniques to help her to sleep.  Controlled crying is an option you may consider.  I did controlled crying with Harrison and if you would like to minti mail me, we can discuss my details if you would like to know more.

All the best to you.  Oh, don't get rid of your day time naps.  It isn't a food or sleep issue.  It sounds to me like she needs to learn self settling techniques.

Good luck-Angela

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

I was going to basically say what HM has said here just adding in what I did to cut out the night bottle. I swapped the milk for water. They weren't interested and would whinge a little but after 2 days they slept through.

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

You have some great suggestions here & I agree with them...try giving her more milk during the day, keep her naps up, give her evening meal a little later - maybe 6pm - and maybe even make her bed time a little later. I hope all the advice helps!

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

I would suggest 3 bottles a day with her meals. Keep the naps going, or she will get overtired. Then at night, try to reduce the feeds and the amount of milk, use settling and eventually she wont need the milk. This way she can learn to sleep though. Hope this helps.

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

she might be getting bigger and therefore need a lot more food during the day to keep her going.  i would give her a late dinner and see if that helps.  good luck.

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

How much is he she eating during the day?  Make sure that she has 3 good meals during the day plus at least 3 bottles.   How much bottle is she having at night?  Try cutting it down.  She may not even need the bottle during the night she may be waking for other reasons, make sure she is not cold/hot or too wet when she wakes up.  Is she teething?

My 9mth old has 3 good meals and 3 good bottles during the day.  He has a bottle just b4 he goes to bed of a night and if he wakes we just resettle him.  Put the dummy in his mouth and give teddy and put blankets on.  Has she got a favourite toy/teddy that you could give him?

It is stressful when they wake so often, I would say increase the amount of  the bedtime bottle and also the morning bottle (when she wakes for the day) and try and cut down or just go cold turkey on the bottles during the night.

Hope this helps and you all get some sleep soon.

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

Thanks for the comment it is nice ti have some-one to chat with about it, that could be the problem, she dose not have much milk during the day but she is always eating she is 13 kilo lol and has her evening meal at 5pm.  When having her bottles at night she is having 250ml, she has got 5 teeth but she has  been realy good why teething,  I have tried to settle her of a night when she wakes but she wont settle until she has a bottle,  I get up several times and sit in the rocker with her but until she has the bottle she wont settle she goes straight back to sleep once she has had it.

I will try to get her to have more bottles during the day and her evening meal later do you think i put her to bed to early she goes at 7pm.

cheers

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

Oh and I agree with the comment below, don't cut out the day naps and she needs them.  If you do cut them out then you are going to have one very over tired and cranky daughter on your hands and it make it harder for them to go to sleep.

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

Hi,

Does she still share a room with you? If so take her out and put her into her own room and that might help or the other thing is if she does wake up through the night maybe try something else other thatn a bottle because she just may be in the habit of getting a bottle everytime she wakes. Don't cut out the naps because she does need them. Have you tried to increase the amount in the bottles during the day maybe she isn't getting enough during the day so she is hungry at night. I have found with my daughter if she misses a feed during the day she tends to wake up at night.

hope that all helps, Juzzy

Re: HELP HELP PLEASE

Thank you for your comment it is nice to have some advise in what to do ,she has always been in her own roo.  , she dosnt tend to drink much milk during the day  but she is always eating she has proberly one milk during the day.  Maybe I should make sure she is just having milk during the day what do you think?  She is 13k so I feel I must be doing something right. Its the lack of sleep and working that makes it hard.  Maybe I also give her evening meal to early she has that at 5pm.

Thanks heaps
