little embarrased but need to ask

For the last few weeks ive had leaking from my right boob but not the left and cass gave me the tip to use nursing pads!! Well today ive been in alot of pain :( my whole nipple is really sore and its actually clear stuff coming out, not alot but it makes my nipple stick to the pad and it pulls on it and hurts :(    I hav been wearing bras but not underwire ones and i dont wear one to bed.

Is this normal for clea stuff to come out?? i thought colustrom was yellowish??

Dannii xxo

Colostrum doesn't always have to be yellowish.  It does start thin and watery like you describe.  I reckon we should put our hands up for the bush fire brigade, that is how much I leak.

As for the soreness you have been getting, try using a lanolin product like Marcolan or Lansinoh.  You will rely on these products when you start breastfeeding.  I'll put the article under your question about this product.

Re: little embarrased but need to ask

I'm shocking for that. Any baby only has to be crying for a feed within ear shot of me and I'm leaking, it's especially bad if pregnant of breastfeeding.

It's nothing wrong, it's just your breasts getting ready for milk production. It can get a bit uncomfortable (I say uncomfortable because there is much worse to come!). Like others have said, massage can help. If you think that hurts, wait til your milk comes down! Blocked milk ducts, swelling, tenderness, leakage, eat your heart out! Luckily it only lasts a short while then it settles down again. Dont' freak out, it's normal.

As for anything sticking to you like that, take it off after wetting it.

And yes, colostrum is yellowish and thick. If you tried to express a little bit now you might even notice little tiny streaks of colostrum in the clear fluid that comes out.

Yep, that leak is normal. Pain... hmm... massage in a warm shower., paracetamol, and relax. Hint: stimulating the nipples can make it worse.

Re: little embarrased but need to ask

morning danni , this isnt to do with your leaking but be careful taking the pads off as i ripped one off trying to feed Jade really quickly and took a chunk off of my nipple, it bleed so much plus i still had to feed Jade while it was healing, for pain cabbage leaves work, just put them in your bra, you will laugh. Hot shower and massage is fantastic. Good luck chicky, hi to mr.bump too,

Nicky

i know this may sound crazy but it works really well and its a age old wives tale put some cabbage leaves on your boobs great for when your breast feeding as well as they are cool and really help with tenderness!!!! give it a whirl for the sake of £1 it may help you out...

Re: little embarrased but need to ask

i got this from 6 months with Charlie

i had to massage in the shower and it also gives your bf a reason to touch them (if u get mastitis when u are feeding it will be a great help having him) its painfull because the ducts are opening and getting ready for the milk to come through.

Sounds like your hormones are really kicking in. Its normal for it to be clear, you wont get proper milk til the baby is born. The pain is most likely coming from a duct.Try massaging it in the shower. It gets sticky as it dries and thats why it sticks to the pad. I'd try wiping with a flannel as you slowly peal it off. hot or cold packs can help with the pain too.

This has never happened me, so I can't help you there. But as far as the nursing pad sticking and pulling your nipple, perhaps you can try disposable nursing pads? Disposable ones have a top that makes it not stick to you when it's wet, unlike the cloth ones.
