This is probably a silly question but I am asking anyway:
for back pain I was told to use a heat pack or hot water bottle. But I thought you werent aloud to have hot showers/baths use the sauna etc while pregnant so wouldnt a hot water bottle be bad too?
It depends on what you call a "hot" shower. What my bf calls a hot shower I call mildly warm, what I call a hot shower is scorching to most people. When they say "hot" they just mean for you to not go doing something that will raise your internal body temperature - which it actually takes quite a lot to do! On the same token, getting too cold is not good either, so "don't have cold baths or showers or go swimming in cold water or playing in the snow"... Just don't get too hot or cold okay.
Hot water bottle or heat sacks are fine.
Deep Heat and other such heat creams may not be good depending on the brand because of some of the chemicals in them. I had to rub heat cream into my bf's busted up shoulder and back for him throughout the end of my pregnancy and had to be careful what brand we bought because ones that couldn't be used while pregnant I couldn't get on my hands either.
i had back aches with josie when i was preganet and i asked if i could use deep heat they said no but hot water bottle andheat packs only and the reason they say no to saunas and spas well public ones as it carrys germs thats what my midwife said
Hi Nikki, I'm pretty sure hot water is only dangerous when your whole body temperature raises because of the heat. I don't think a hot water bottle could do this, as its only your back thats exposed to the heat, not your whole body (as in a hot bath). If you are worried, limit the time with the hot water bottle/heat pack to 10 mins or so. Hope this helps! Jess xox
I know that heat packs are fine cos my midwife told me to use one..Im sure a hot water bottle ould be fine,id just wrap it in a hand or tea towel..Also like already said the reson being for no hot baths ect is because the babys water will get to hot, its already 26 degrees in there!!
well, I think the reason you cant take hot baths and suna's and stuff is because your baby is submerged in water, so if you take a hot bath then it will make your baby's water too hot, but a hot waterbottle on your back should be ok, I cant immagine that you would have it hot enough to do damage!! hope this is helpful!
