help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Hi..... lm 40 weeks pregnant as was wondering if anyone had there waters broken to bring on labor? Does the labor take longer?
The reason l am asking this is the Ob Doc said they will not induce me as l have had a pervious c section , but l have had natural births before...l was going for a VBAC. lve got until mid next week to go into labor then they want to do another c section , but l was advised by a midwife to ask for the waters to be broken first if l want my VBAC. l have a histroy of clotting after a c section - thats why l dont want another.
Or if you have any suggust to help bring on labor, please let me know?
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
I don't have any extra advice from that already given except to wish you good luck! I would try and drag them out another few days to see if your body kicks into action! I think that unless bubs is in danger the more intervention that has to happen, the more likey a c-section is. ( I had the whole works with my first...horror story....so I have been interested in the advice given in case I am brave enough to try again ...for a VBAC!) Fingers crossed, you have the birth thath you want!
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Hello I had a vaginal birth (never had a caesarean) and after much debate decided to break my waters DURING established labour - in my case that actually helped to speed up the process. However it can be risky if performed when the head is still high up in the uterus. If you are in Brisbane try talking to the lovely ladies at BIRTHTALK who do seminars on VBAC or check out BellyBelly to speak to a doula (birthing assistant) - they should be able to give you some excellent advice and support. As far as suggestions to bring on labour s e x is probably the most effective if any, but you need to make sure that your husband is on top and that you raise your hips afterwards and let the semen sit around your cervix for a while so that it has time to work. Basically semen contains prostaglandin - a natural form of the stuff they sometimes give you to induce labour. However this may not work if the time is not right, just as the gel won't work either. Let me know if this helps

Thank you.....l will give it ago and let you know. If l dont go into labor before wednesday l have decided to go for my waters getting broken and seeing where it goes from there.
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
My waters broke naturally the day before I was booked for an induction. But I still had to be put on a drip as nothing happened!! So I am not sure really as everyone is different. Have lots of sex, and go for a long car ride over a bumpy road :)
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
HI Well i am a little different than the other responses i had my water broken with my last child, they broke them and i had my boy 40 mins later.I guess everyone is dif maybe my body was ready i was 4 weeks early two. Its your decision really so if you want your waters broken and put on a drip which helps even more than thats what you do. If its a serious medical reason that you have to have a c-section than i guess you have 2 but if not than you tell them what you want!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Thank heaps Tassie,
l just needed someone that had been there and had that happen.....l just didnt know what would happen in the process. l have no medical reason so far in why they would like to do another c section......normal pregnancy up and downs its just cos the ob docs dont want me going over 41 weeks...plus l had bad BH this pregnancy......he is fully down head first, all the monitoring is fine on him..
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Like you, I am trying for a VBAC for my second pregnancy. The have found that there's a 1% chance of uterine rupture if you have a VBAC and most hospitals won't even risk letting you try for it. Therefore they won't induce you but would rather you go naturally in order for the VBAC to occur. Good luck to you.
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Hi......good luck with you VBAC.
l live in Melbourne and my hospital is all for VBAC, most of the midwives there have had the training in VBAC and they have a good rate of there VBAC, there are still some docs l have meet over these 40 weeks that dont believe in VBAC. l have spoken to the head midwives that run there VBAC program and they are postive that l should be able to have him naturally if l go into labor , as l have had 3 natural and only 1 c section.
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
There really isn't any guarantee way of bringing on labor. Breaking the water doesn't necessarily speed up the laboring process either, nor stripping of the membrane. Unfortunately, if your body is not ready, then it won't be ready. I've had this same experience during my last pregnancy - I had my cervix membrane stripped twice, a foley bulb to cause dilation, my water broken and pitocin to induce labor and I still ended up with a c-section. Many people will swear by different methods - having lots of sex, castor oil, eating spicy food, nipple stimulation but everyone responds differently to every method. They may or may not work for you. I wish you luck in the delivery process.
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
Thank you ...... l understand fully and maybe you are right my body just aint ready to have the baby..... l really dont understand why the docs will not wait until 42 weeks (like they did with my pervious babys) to see if something happens as every pregnancy is different and last for differetn amount of time.
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
I had my waters broken, I was on a drip and baby was being monitored (another story) I was in labour for 15hrs and ened up with a C section. I'm a very small person and bubs was about 7pounds.
Try having sex or eating curry or going for a really long walk to bring on the labour. Hey you might like to try all 3. LOL
Re: help....they are thinking about another c section :(
i just put this in your blog too. Ask about a "sweep". They disrupt the membranes( like an inturnal) and usually you go into labour within 24 hours. They did this to me when i was over due and it worked a treat.
