My little girl has 4 teeth (2 up and 2 down) and i've been brushing her teeth since they first came out. She is alright with me brushing them but the thing is, how do i teach her to spit? I use a little colgate (babys colgate) on her toothbrush, and she seems to like the taste and swallows instead of spitting it out. I've tryed showing her how to spit it out but she just doesnt do it. Is it okay for her to continue swallowing the toothpaste? Can anyone tell me how to get her to spit it out?
The baby toothpaste is harmless & won't hurt her no matter how much she swallows. All you can do is continue to show her how to rinse & spit (get her a fun cup to use, this worked for my son) and she will eventually copy you and do it - my 2 1/2 year old had been doing it now for about 8 months or so, it just takes time & to them toothpaste is yummy! LOL! Good luck.
Hey :) I would probably just use water for now. She shouldn't be swallowing too much as it is bad for her. Just keep showing her how to spit with the water and once she has mastered it maybe use toothpaste again :)
To tell you the truth, my son didn't even start spitting until he was past 2 1/2 years old. He may have had the ability to do it before then, but I didn't worry about it. In the meantime, I used toddler toothpaste on him (contains no flouride). And when I saw that he could finally spit on command, I started telling him to spit while still on the toddler toothpaste. A few months of that and now he's on a child's toothpaste (contains a little amount of flouride).
My kids loves the taste of kids toothpaste as well. I don't think theres a huge problem with her swallowing it, as its got so little fluoride in it. As long as you only put a small amount on the brush she will be fine.
hello
i dont think it will do any harm my three yr old eats it like its going out of fashion gross i say and i try to stop her but she hides . i have a 14 mtnh old aswell and i was told only to use water as they are not ready for toothpaste yet
I would'nt worry about it I asked my dentist the same thing and he said its doesnt matter and advised that we souldnt it wont do any harm aslong as your using either a baby tooth paste of a fluride tooth paste, fluride being better than baby brands just use a small pea sized amount and that sld be fine.
