My lil cutie pie ethan will be one month old tomorrow. He is awake for approx 3.5-4 hrs each day which is fine ....but of a night time he sleeps too well! He usually sleeps from 10pm - 4:30 am - meaning he sleeps through his 2am feed. Is this ok or should i semi wake him and dream feed him?
I never use to wake my children up, if they are hungrey they will let u know, if they r wet they will let u know, why wake them up & for them to be crumpy & not eat?
I used to wake my babies for day feeds only so if their last feed was 9pm then that was where I stopped waking until the morning and they learnt to sleep through very quickly. I fed 9 am 1pm 5pm 9pm 5am...I also double nappied (cloth) for night comfort.
My daughter followed suit feeding her man every 3 hours and he's 9 mths old sleeps from 6 till 6-7am in the morning and has done for several months.
Little cutie pie Ethan, what i have seen of him looks healthy and so well cared for....my 2 cents for what it is worth, let him sleep, if his hungry, he will let you know....and if his gaining weight, everything is going along smoothly.
Have you heard the saying "Never wake a sleeping baby"? Yeah, it's hard not too when you probably feel like he should have a feed. A comment below said that you are bottle feeding so maybe he can go a little longer between feeds. I wouldn't worry if you feel everything else is fine, just sleep and enjoy it yourself!
From what i have read about the 'dream feed' is that it should be done between 10 and 11pm and it is used to get a baby to sleep through longer. I would leave it if i were you, he sounds fine!
I agree my daughter was bottle feed and when I brought her home my family and friends said dont woke her for a feed let her wake she will let you no when she is hungry. As she was little and born four weeks early I didnt listen and woke her every three to four hours.
She is now ten months going on to elven months, and Im having trouble with her she is waking up to three times a night for a bottle and now I wonder if my waking her to feed, is why she still dont sleep threw the night. So my advice would be let her sleep and she will let you no when she is hungry??????????
Since your bottle feeding I would leave him to sleep. My eldest slept like that from 2 weeks and he was breast fed so I had to wake him as my milk started drying up. But if they are sleeping they are obviously not hungry :)
I wouldent i would just let him sleep if hes hungry he will wake for it chloe was exactly the same she would sleep most of the day and then at night she would have her last feed at 10pm and then would sleep right through til 6am .
I have to agree with most people and say not to wake him. I started off dream feeding Zak as he was near impossible to wake up, he wouldn't even burp so I'd find he would be waking up with wind pains through the night. If Ethan is hungry he'd sure let you know. Formula fed babies can go much longer without feeds especially through the night.
It's great that he's sleeping so well and up a little during the day, but I would recommend maybe making him a little tired during those "3.5-4 hrs" periods, so that half of that time will be spent sleeping..
and then during the night he will be less tired and wake then...
Alisha was a night baby, so she would stay up for a couple hours during the night...
but she would still wake up during the day and night, wanting breastfeeds on demand...
I think you probably should semi wake him and dream feed him...
It's funny, though, with Alisha, you could never semi wake her.. she would always wake completely for a feed. lol
I think it'd be good if you woke him for the feed..
because then maybe his appetite will decrease, and then he'll eventually wake himself :)
Haha by the way, I've noticed my advice conflicts with everybody else's.. that's cool :)
The only reason why I suggested this though was because the nurses at the hospital told me this...
because it's good for keeping up your milk supply :)
You could always just express if you're worried about your milk supply not keeping up :)
But at the end of the day, it's your decision whether you wake him or not :)
hey there,
thanks for your advice. it was very much appreciated regardless of whether it conflicts with everyone elses or not.
I am not worried about milk supply because he is bottle fed so i have insufficient funds anyway haha. thanks once again!
Don't wake him. My youngest slept though from 5 weeks. VERY LUCKY. If he is hungry he will wake up and let you know. Just make sure he is having enough through the day.
boys for some reason are reknowned for being angels when they are a few months old they sleep for hours and will let you know when they wantanything.
i alwauys hear of stories of how skyes dad was never a trouble baby and my little boy when i had him always slept and would only wake for a feed after a hours of sleeping, now is also ideal for a routine if you can get him into one my friends little one is now 8 months old and sleeps well through the night cries if he doesnt have his bath the same time at night purely because she has him in such a brill routine!!!!!
