Re: important
There are many things that pregnancy books, doctors and midwives fail to tell us about pregnancy, and this is one of them. I'm onto my 5th baby, and have found that right from the start with all of them, I have had cramping and aches in and around my stomach. It is all normal for me, as it is for most women.
I have found that the lower part of the uterus in early pregnancy has suffered from this more due to the fact that it is being squeezed tighter because of its placing. This has progressed to the whole uterus as the pregnancy has progressed and usually has indicated that there has been a rapid growth period either about to start or just finishing. Just ask your back if it is keeping up.
Even later in pregnancy, we call them braxton hicks contractions because it does squeeze like a contraction would, can be just as intense and is felt usually just in the tummy muscles, though back muscles may join in as well.
Any time you have bleeding with the pain, then it should be checked out asap. Also, you may feel a burning and pulling sensation around your cervix, something that intrigued me until I figured out what it was. Just them closing, cleaning themselves and getting ready for the big stretch.
