you've got some fantastic answers already, especially all the adivce articles. My only thing to add is that besides it being the best thing I ever did with my first child, you need to know that it's really hard to do on your own, make sure you have something with you when you do it for support and to help keep you calm. It's really hard to hear your baby cry but know it's better to leave them alone. I couldn't do it on my own as I didn't have nay family that lived near by and my hubby had to go to work everyday. I ended up taking him to Tresillian where the midwives were brilliant, they stay with you as long as you need them and help you every step of the way.

controled crying to me is heart breaking. i did it for alex (but found out he was crying cause he had cramps)

controled crying is where u put your bubs to bed and let them cry for 5 mins come in reasure them leave cry for 5 mins repeat and gradually increase the time to be longer inbetween reassuring. this is not a quick fix and can take a long time to do.

if u are religiouse and go to church as ur pastor or home group if they do growing kids gods way ( i think they still do it) and do that. we did it and it helped us alot.

Controlled crying is pretty much where you teach your baby to self settle. You need to have a lot of patience and support when using this because it can become very stressful.

You take away sleeping aids such as dummies and being rocked to sleep - whatever they are used to sleeping with really (apart from cuddle rug) and when bub cries you go in after a minute and see if they have wind etc change nappy, then you leave room and double the time in between each cry before you go in until they finally go to sleep! Hope this helps
