Re: pregnancy weight?

Hi, I was very slight when I became pregnant. I was fortunate that I sufferred no morning sickness, instead I was STARVING!!! For the first five months, I was REALLY hungry, so I ate! I made sure it was reasonably healthy food, but I ate when I was hungry! I put on 18kg. ( all within the first 7 months) At first I was concerned, but I came to believe that I was feeding bub and if the weight went on, it was for a reason! I guess I was lucky in that within a month of having my beautiful bub I had lost all but 4 kg! I guess that's why my body needed to bulk up a little! After that I ended up being very underweight for a few months as bub was very demanding and I was feeding her around the clock! At about 6 months, she settled down and lo and behold I was back at my pre birth weight! Listen to your body, it will tell you what you need. I hadn't eaten red meat for 15 years , but suddenly had the urge to eat it while pregnant, so I did! you can gain 8 - 20 kg without being out of the ordinary! If you keep to reasonably healthy options and listen to what your body tells you you need, don't stress!!! I found I had the urge to eat hot chips every week or so! So I had them! I love fish and seafood, but while pregnant, I couldn't stand it! The pregnant body is an amazing thing...nuture it, feed it and your baby will benefit enormously!

Re: pregnancy weight?

Yes I agree. I am a firm believer that carvings are your body needing something. So for you craving red meat may have been your body telling you it needed more iron :)

Eat what you crave... that is also very important!!

Re: pregnancy weight?

I wouldn't be eating twice as much as you were before. i think that's physically impossible but you do need extra calories while pregnant as you're carrying around more weight and having to feed the baby yourself. it's tough work building a baby :P so you might find yourself eating a little more than normal. if not, no biggie, a lot of women find they have terrible morning sickness for all 9 months and don't eat heaps of food but still produce healthy babies. i tried to eat healthy, but if i wanted kfc i had it and didn't worry about it. pregnancy is not the time to watch your weight, it's the time to look after yourself and your growing baby. after giving birth to my bub Cameron i'd gained 6.5 kilos and i ate stuff like chinese and fish and chips aswell. yet my sister ate all the same things, was half my size to begin with and ended up putting on 25 kilos with her baby, it just depends on you and the baby.

if you're scared of gaining weight and feel a deep urge to work off any extra food you're eating i would go and see a doctor, as you don't want an eating disorder to develop. both for your sake and the baby's

Re: pregnancy weight?

With my first one I put on about 20 kg and that was with eating healthy and watching my intake. My kids just pile the weight on me. Each one was different but with blood pressure problems and water retention I gave up on the last 2. I now have to go on a big weight loss program, not that I am huge but have been told to do something about it.

Re: pregnancy weight?

From what I read when I was pregnant, it was roughly around 12 to 15kgs, i think. Though I put on about 20kgs when I was pregnant.

Re: pregnancy weight?

Hi,

As everyone else has written every pregnancy is different and there is not set amount of weight you should or should not put on. I only put on 7kg with my son and he was nearly 9 pound where as with my daughter i actually lost 5 kg and she was only 7 pound. I really don't believe the saying "eating for 2" because i found that i wasn't as hungry being pregnant. Don't feel like you have to exercise just because you have eaten take away just look at it like you don't have to do the dishes tonight.

Hope that helps

Re: pregnancy weight?

Every person is different during pregnancy, and some people still eat the same amount of food while pregnant to before they were pregnant. Just means in a way that your child won't be a big eater. Don't worry about that. It's normal.

Re: pregnancy weight?

There are no real rules on how much weight you should gain in pregnancy.  I put on heaps (14kgs) with my first, but the rest were less.  My fourth, I lost more weight than I gained and have only put on 4kgs with this one and am almost 28 weeks.   I have to gain more about 500gms a week before my doctor will quit nagging, but I have been  very sick with morning sickness and then the flu.

It sounds like you might have a weight issue in your own head any way, and that will need to be watched by your doc as anorexic behaviour in pregnancy can be very dangerous.
