No Hubby for 3 weeks!

I have been married for 6 years and have only ever been away from my husband for a weekend.  He has to go to hospital for 3 weeks with weekends at home.  I will have my 3.5yo and 20mth old boys with me at home.  I have a choice I can stay at home and have my mother visit for a week or I can go down to her place for 3 weeks.  My eldest is in preschool and so I am reluctant to waste the money spent on preschool by going to my mothers for 3 weeks.  I am in 2 minds.  Part of me is saying "you can do it on your own it isn't much more than you've been doing already" and part of me is saying "it's too long to be on your own with the boys".  I know there are single mums out there - how do you do it? My house looks like a bomb has gone off and I only work some Friday nights.  The rest of the time I'm at home.  And I have only just joined this site so I can't blame being on the computer.  Any advice would be welcomed here. B

Preservatives and artificial colouring

Hi All,

We are thinking of putting our 3 year old son on a preservative and colourfree diet. He is very hyperactive when he eats certin foods and the only way we think we can fix it is just to omit it all out of his diet.

I would like to know of any parents who have done this and what their child was like without the preservatives and colours and any sites where i can find a list of foods which are safe.

Thank you all in advance

Juzzy xoxo

rambunctious toddler containment (with possible TMI)

Once or twice a day I take a ~ahem~ bathroom break that's longer--you know--the 5 to 10 minute kind.  Previously I've plunked my son into his high chair with a cookie or colors or something to keep him distracted until I'm out, but he's almost 23 months now and recently figured out how to both take the tray off AND unbuckle himself.

The incident in which I realized he was capable of this yielded several broken collectibles (from atop a high bookshelf he climbed) and 2 pounds of scattered dry dogfood (god knows how much he ATE.)  He's simply too.....much of an explorer to be trusted "loose", for lack of a better term, during these times.

What can I do to corral my boisterous boy on these occasions?

Cradle cap

My boy is 11weeks old and has 2 spots of cradle cap on teh back of his head, its yellow and flakey. Ive been told to put baby oil on it and try to sctratch it off but i dont want to hurt him or lift the skin. Does anyone know how i can get rid of it?? Also he has a dry red patch on the top of his hairline going a little onto his forehead, what could this be?? it looks red and bumpy but like dry skin, im pretty sure it irritates him cos he is always putting his hands there and he has heaps of scratch marks in that spot.

Ptosis - Eye Condition

Does anyone else have to deal with a young baby who has Ptosis? Jasmine is fourteen months old now and I have to take her to Westmead in early November for her second checkup. At the first checkup, they assured me that there was no problem with her vision. If it's simply a lazy eye, how necessary is it to operate other than for cosmetic reasons?

My 9 year olds Oma won't back off

my son lost his father when he was 2 and his grandma(his father's mum)

is really over-bearing and controlling with everything to do with him

how can I let her know that Im his mum and to let me be that without her constant interfering and reminding him that "daddy isn't here anymore so I'll look after you"

I really feel like she hasn't dealt with her grief and is kind of "sticking her claws" into my son because she has lost hers...I feel bad for her, but I want to get on with my son and my life! Please help!
