any tips on how to get my 7 month old to drink water? or even diluted juice? all he wants is his milk and won't touch water. i thoguht maybe it's because i'm putting it in a bottle and he associates bottle with milk. i've bought a sippy cup but all he does is chew on it.
PLEASE ask your doctor or ring the Australian Breastfeeding Association (even though you are formula feeding) and ask them about this as I believe the advice of giving babies water at such a young age may well be outdated! Plus you dont want to fill him up on water with no room for "food" (milk). Make sure you get some solid up-to-date advice on this one and let us know what you find out
It took awhile for my son to accept water. I tried several drifferent sippy cups B4 he actually liked one. He also used to chew on it. This is probably his way of getting used to the sippy cup. Maybe try getting some and leaving them around the house so that he always has access to it, and he can then get used to it. Persistence is the key, just keep trying! Ofter it to him often so he can get used to it.
I got my son..now nearly 2 and loves water.....to take it by:
Make it warm....not cold. I also gave it to him at 5 months old through a straw! It took a bit of time and patience but he did take it. I also taught my friends little one to take it.
Just keep offering it. Especially when he is hungry or getting to that point.
It will take some time for him to accept water and to master the art of drinking from a cup. At this age, his milk should still be where he gets most of his fluids so don't worry about it.
he's on lactose free formula, he has about 4 bottles of 180 mls a day. i normally give him a solid feed and then follow up with a bottle. i keep a bottle of water in his playpen sometimes but all he seems to do is chew on the teat (doesn't have any teeth yet)
Persistence is the key. Give him the water, if he doesn't drink it just leave it with him. If he's thirsty enough he will eventually take it. If you take it away & get him milk, he'll know that if he doesn't take the water, & if he cries, you'll get him milk. So do not give in to his cries! Good luck
