cot.

ill try this again. i have done this three times now,and it keeps stuffing up. my son is 2 next month. and he still sleeps in the cot, cos we are living with my parents, and in the same room. (me and my son that is). anyway when i put him in his cot straight on his back in the middle of the cot, i go in after and hes moved himself right into the corner of the cot. he has done this every night now. does anyone know why he is right in the corner. ill be getting him a toddler bed soon.

Re: cot.

I dont know why babies do this but it is quite common. Maybe its because they are used to being all squashed up in that position in the womb?  My son has always done it (and still does) in his cot and even the times he slept in our bed he would curl up against the timber head board. He is happy healthy and gets a good nights sleep so if your bubba is doing the same then I dont think its anything to worry about.

Re: cot.

My son i(JB) s 22 months and there is no way he is ready for a toddler bed yet!

Like your son, JB is very active in his sleep and will often be found stuck up in one corner of his cot , lying across the width of the cot or have turned 180 degrees in his sleep. I have no idea why he sleeps like this either, but I know he sleeps well and wakes happy and that is all that matters to me! I am in no hurry to move him to a toddler bed (or remove the part of his cot to turn it into a day bed) until I know he is safe and is not going to hurt himself (or until he realises he can climb out!!!)

On a recent trip to my parents JB slept in a really low bed but still fell out of it at least 6 times! I didn't get much sleep worrying about him!

Re: cot.

It's probably a comfort thing, my eldest daughter used to do that as well.  I never worried about it and when she went into a bed, I put the matress on the floor first so if she fell off she didn't hurt herself.

Re: cot.

Our 2 year old is the same.  Actually, we have her in a porta cot and have cut one of the sides out so she can get out, and have often found her under her big sisters bed!  But, I think all kids sleep in the corner or with their bottoms in the air.  My mum has the photographic proof that I did!

I think kids do this for comfort and the feeling of being safe, that is not rolling onto the floor or feeling as though they are going to fall on the floor.  If he sleeps soundly, then I wouldn't worry.

Re: cot.

my son too sleeps with his bottom in the air. i have pics of it too. it is funny. and i cant put a blanket on him when he first goes to sleep, i have to wait till hes asleep. but hes always got warm clothes on, so he doesnt get cold. and when i put him to bed, he does sit there, and stands up sometimes

Re: cot.

Lol should have read the other posts before writing mine! JB sleeps with his bum in the air too! It always looks so uncomfortable but he seems happy.

I have too keep JB in a sleepbag still as he will not keep covers on him.. even if I cover him up once he is asleep. Sleep bags are great and I recently found some up to the age of 3! Dunno what I will do after this?

Re: cot.

My Son does this too he is only 9.5 months.  We always find him in strange positions.  It is probably just a thing that children do.

Re: cot.

Most likely just a kid thing - who knows why kids do half the things they do? lol. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if he is sleeping fine. Most little ones muck around a bit before they go to sleep. He's 2 - he probably sits back up once you leave the room, maybe even stands up, then when he is ready to sleep he ends up in the corner. Whatever the reason, as I said, don't worry about it.

Re: cot.

the only thing i can suggest is that not everyone likes sleeping on their backs . also we tend to "toss and tun "' during the night . it isnt uncommon to sleep on your side and change sides whilst sleeping

this is also when little ones do tend to start "dreaming" and having "nightmares" so it can be restless  for them.

i used to find my youngest outside his blankets no matter how well i "tucked him in" i would resort to having him sleep in his "dressing gown' so he wouldnt get sick then as winter approachd i would even have the heating on low

he used to love sleeping on his tummy but with his bottom "in the air" and his hands tucked under like a "duck'

dont rush him into a bed if he isnt ready though if you do try just make sure you put the cot aside just in case he 'isnt ready"

cheers annie

Re: cot.

my son used to sleep width wise on his cot against the head board. no matter where u put him thats where he wanted to sleep.

i wouldnt stress about it chicki. there is nothing wrong with it.

my kids slept in their cots till A 2.5 and C 3.

good luck

Re: cot.

hey,

maybe he is just favouring a par of his cot?? i know i sleep some weird ways lol, also he may become cold and snuggs up to one corner maybe?? I dont see anything bad with him doing this, maybe its just time for a toddler bed..dont stress, and just make sure his covered cos its cold at nights now, and maybe thats why he snuggles to one corner..
