I would say to stop your kids from nail biting, you will have to get their dad to stop. Children learn by example and if they see him doing it, they are naturally going to follow his example.
I kept biting my nails until I was in my 20s. But if I'd had this idea earlier, I believe it would have worked then too. I took to painting flowers on my fingernails, using nailpolish & liquid paper. It took hours b/c I had to wait for each coat to dry before I added the next. I topped it off w/ clear varnish. Every time I went to bite my nails, I'd see the flowers & remember how long it took me to paint the flowers... & how much easier it was to do if there was enuff nail there. I did this for about 3 yrs. I learnt to carry a nailfile b/c rough edges annoy me. So finger nails can be mini artistic canvases. It wont work w/ very small children since they can't do the work themselves.. but maybe those little nail transfers one sometimes sees in $2 shops will help. I did find out tho, that the underlying cause was rough nail edges. So filing & moisturiser would be a good place to start.
there is a nail polish wich is harmless and it is clear you paint it on and it has horriable taste and it is ment to stop you eating your nails you but it at the chemist.
hi, i used to be a nail tech......usally the kids biting their nails was learnt from watchin or stress, so try and get Dad to stop too. You can try bribes, or nail varnishes that are aimed at nail biters. (ask chemist, aka drug store) depends on age, but if you can show them how gross it is by putttin a cloth bandaid on for a day then show them at night and ask them would they chew on it? There is more germs under the finger nails than on a public toilet seat. I have to admit the habbit will be hard to break, i told my nephew who was 3 yrs old that he can have spiderman blue nails if he would let them grow a bit. Since he was so young he didnt know nail polish was aimed at girls.we were lucky. I have seen deformed nails that grow lumpy and will never be the same as the nail bed was so damaged, not trying to scare you, Good luck...
