Re: change table issues

I have a mobile hanging above my change table - that does help sometimes. I always try to have something handy that he doesn't usually have to keep his attention & stop him wriggling. If nothing seems to help the best bet is the floor or a bed - although I find my sons both wriggled worse if I did this.

My little 5 mth old is the same, she rolls over all the time on her change table.  I never take my hands off her however I haven't found a solution for it yet.  I try keeping her attention on me and this works sometimes.

Re: change table issues

Duct tape, lots and lots of duct tape. KIDDING!!!

Seriously tho, floor is always the safest place. It's the hardest to roll off of. However it can hurt your back if you've got a bad one, so the next option - and more expensive one, is there are some change tables you can get that have straps that go over bubs chest to stop them rolling off, but I don't have a clue where to start looking for such a thing. Alternatively, get some old pram or stroller straps and attach them to the change table, minus the one that goes between bubs legs.

Re: change table issues

When your child starts moving about like you have mentioned the safest place is on the floor.  Your little one's movements will gradually get quicker too so it can be a tricky task trying to change a nappy and stop your child from getting a hold of something he/she should not, both at the same time.

Re: change table issues

We also had to stop using the change table at, at around 10 months, due to the wriggling and objecting.  We started changing her on the bed to save my back, but after a couple of months we also had to stop that because she was becoming so mobile (and strong).  We now change and dress her on the floor, but I do find this in a bit tough on my back.  Whenever anyone (and I mean anyone) is around I get them to help by distracting her so its less of a struggle.

Re: change table issues

Give him something to keep him occupied and distracted from what you are doing....

* a sticker on his hand (or a piece of sticky tape); he will focus on trying to pull it off

* blow up a balloon just a little way and give to him to play with

* keep some toys aside, ones he doesn't play with, at change time get a different toy out - because he hasn't played with it for a long time it will be a novelty to him

* do you have hair ties? put one on his wrist; he'll like trying to take it off

* put some water into a clear bottle and put glitter in it for him to play with

The idea is to use one of these methods each time, not the same one all the time, so it's a novelty to him.

Of course, you can just do what I did - change him on the floor, lol. I gave up on change tables once the little buggers... I mean darlings, lol..... started wriggling around too much.

Re: change table issues

We do some of those things as well. He likes to have a book or toy while I change him it keeps him occupied. I did notice that when I change  him on th efloor like others suggested, the problem was 10 times worse...LOL He saw he has MORE space and wanted to get away, little stinker...hehehehe

But the book and toy thing works really well for him.

Good luck getting your tied down to the table...LOL

Re: change table issues

Hi, I bought a change table and bath in one, and the part where the change table is there is a strap that you can put over bubs belly so they cant move. If your son is always moving and sitting up ect, i think its time to stop using the change table, like Arna said, use the bed. Also you can just buy change mats and lay them on the floor, bed or where ever you want to change.

Good luck, Dannii xxo

Re: change table issues

I think this is something that all kids go through.  We stopped using the change table and moved the changing area to a bed.  That way, we could sit down and had better control of little wrigglers.
