Solids

My baby girl is 5 1/2 mths old, my question is this.....when can I give her weetbix?

She has been having solids since she was roughly just over 4 mths.  I can't remember whether I ever gave weetbix to my eldest girl when she was a baby.

Re: Solids

I have read in my baby book that babies can eat healthy adult cereals from seven months when made to the correct consistency.

I started giving my girl weetbix only every now and then when she was about 8 months.. mainly because thats what the health nurse recommended..

Re: Solids

Weetbix are high in salt and a major cause of constipation in kids so not the best thing for them to be having especially that young. you can try porridge this is a good one for kids.

Re: Solids

You are the best one to know when your baby is ready for any sort of food.  If she can handle weetbix, then go for it.  Just make sure it is really mushy, but not just soggy.

I started my little one at 5m she had four teeth but when making it I made sure I put the hot water in first and this makes it masht then I added her milk and she coped fine with it.

Re: Solids

She can try anthing that she can handle. When babies go onto solids, it's their throat expansion & what teeth they have that enables them to have more foods - however mushy her food is, thats how to make the weetbix. As already advise, just use breastmilk or formula with it. Some people add warm water to mush weetbix up more, or just heat the formula to put on it.

Re: Solids

Is that cereal or like cookies?  Either way, I would make sure that she has a strong bite and maybe a few teeth.  I did that with my girl, made sure that she had at least her front lower teeth to gnaw some of it off and then I knew by that age her jaw was strong enough to mush it so she would not choke.  Just be sure to watch her until she gets the hang of it.  Good Luck!

Re: Solids

yes they can eat wheetbix.

i started my daughter on wheat bix as she didnt like the rice cereal. i started her at 4.5 months and was told by my doc it was fine. as long as it is really mushy and use formula or beastmilk as well as boiled water. i also used the baby yogurt with it.
