jess is four and she cant count to ten, well she can if u remind her but she forgets like an hour later and she cant say the alphabet either... i have sta with her and tried teaching them to her the same as i did jayde but it seems she cant retain the information... jayde was saying the alphabet when she was three and counting to 100 at four. i know all kids develope differently but even the preschool said she needs help with counting... could she have a learning problem or is it normal for a four yr old to not know the abc's and how to count... she also cant write her name....
I have a friend whose daughter wasn't going to be able to go to kindergarten because she didn't know how to bounce a ball. I'm thinking that maybe the whole school thing has gotten a little out of control. From what you said, you have to remind/reteach her things every once in a while. I think as long as you can do that, it means that she has that capacity to learn. If you were going over it constantly and she still couldn't get it, then maybe you would have a cause for concern. If you really think she should be able to count, then maybe you can focus on fun counting games to help her remember.
i'm betting Jess is more advanced in other areas, so I wouldn't stress too much. I feel there is way too much pressure put on parents to correct potential problems with their children at an earlier age. I feel we will be expected to put our newborns into uni the way things are going.
Obviously, if Jess doesn't keep improving in these areas at a reasonable pace, then extra help won't hurt.
And as for four year olds writing their names!!!!!! Huh? I've never heard of a four year old who could write their name!!!!!!!! my 5 year old is just starting to do this. Who told you Jess should be writing her name (making an assumption here)? They need their heads read!
Thanks arna, well jayde could write her name at around 4 so i assumed jess would to.. aND THE KINDY DIRECTER oops lol, said that most kids that age can... but she isnt the nicest person...
i think that is a load of tot. cause none of the kids in my sons kindy class could write their name in the begining on term. they could get the gist of it by the end of kindyand start at the begining of Pre school
some parents push their kids and make life harder for the teachers. we got told last year for our orientation for kindy not to teach our kids to write their name and if we felt we 100% had to to use their lettering and dont make them write all in capotals. (so many ppl do this)
Charlotte can count to 10 but she cant write her name. she knows it starts with a C but thats it. My kindy is fine with Charlie being like this.
Personally i would just keep persivering. give her 6 months before going to see a peaditricion.(spelling) The teachers should sugest help through the school before going to see one. (the school should provide a referal to see a therapist who helps with memory)
yea maybe im just being a worry wort. she knows her name starts with j and she knows it has two s's if she sees it written she knows its her name... ill just talk to the kindy again... she what counting things we can do. i already got number magnets, number cards... we sing the 1 - 12 song from seseme st.. lol
thanks, ill just keep doing it and give her a term n see how it goes.. glad to see she isnt the only one who cant write her name. the kindy director told me 80% of the kids can... probably a load of rubbish... she is a bit mean...
