Bringing on Labour

A friend of mine is at the end of her pregnancy and desperate to have it all over (it is her 3rd).

Can anyone give me ideas to pass on to her as to how to do this?  She has tried sex, long walks and peppermint tea.

Re: Bringing on Labour

Um, all the traditional methods have failed me in the past!  Only thing that has brought labour on has been a few days of super energised cleaning followed by a few days rest and then repeating all over again.

It is the pits being induced!  I had to be with my 3rd child!

Re: Bringing on Labour

Hope this isn't too blunt but the thing that worked for me was nipple stimulation (pretty much express). I was set to be induced and I so didn't want that, so I was willing to try whatever, and well, that worked.

The best of luck to your friend.

Re: Bringing on Labour

Rasberry leaf tea or hot baths are supposed to help. Plan to go out, bubs just might decide that thats the time. House work like sweeping etc. is also an option.

No matter what, bub will decide the time!

The only thing that ever worked for me was to give up wishing and make plans to be somewhere doing something that going into labour totally spoils. lol

And a friend of mine who recently had her tenth - yes, thats 10 - child agrees with me. This time round she was about to leave to go to a party at my place when labour started. Gave me something else to celebrate! lol

Re: Bringing on Labour

There are so many tales of things to do to bring on labour - types of tea, hot baths, long walks, sex, etc, etc, but basically baby will come when baby is ready & not before.

My ex's sister was like your friend. She tried everything & it did not work. Were her other 2 on time? My first on time but only because I was induced. My other 2 were about 1 1/2 weeks over. My sister-in-law was the same with both - 1 1/2 weeks over.

Of course, some of the things people say bring on labour might work, you never know. I think it's more coincidence it labour starts after trying them, lol. Good luck to your friend - I hope she goes soon, for her sake, lol.

I completely agree.  My SIL just went through the same thing.  She tried absolutely everything!  She even tried castor oil.... all that did was give her a pain in the guts.  It will come when its ready and not before.  your friend has no choice but to sit back and try to get as much rest as she can before the big day.

Raspberry leaf tea.. it worked for me (well I am kinda sure it did!) It comes in tea bags as well as tablet form, I went for the drink and it actually tastes quite nice.

Ask your friend to speak to her midwife/OBGYN to make sure it is safe for her to take it.
