tooth brushes for bubs

my daughter is now just over 5 months and a second little tooth has just come through. When is a good time to start brushing. Should a be running a soft brush with a little water on it now, or is it something you start later?

Re: tooth brushes for bubs

Hi, I started brushing my daughters teeth at 3 months because she had her first tooth come through then so I suggest that you get the soft kids toothbrush & if your not comfortable using the "my first toothpaste" then just use some warm water & gently brush or let your daughter have a bit of a choo for a couple of mins because if she has a tooth or 2 they will need brushing just like yours cause they are still teeth after all & need the same care.

I get my daughter the Colgate's my first toothpaste & the soft toothbrushes.

Also just remember your daughter's gums will be tender as more teeth come through so if she doesnt like you brushing, like I suggested maby let her choo on the brush.

Hope everything gose well for you & your daughter.

Yes. Get the 1st stage toothbrush that others have mentioned. I think you should start 'brushing' them as soon as teeth come through, also to get them used to it! Our HATES getting her teeth cleaned, its a real fight so I suggest getting her used to it young!!!!

You can purchase a baby oral care kit at most leading stores, target etc. It comes in a set of three. One is a teether, a gum stimulator and a soft baby tooth brush. Never use paste until older. This lets baby get used to the feel of something in their mouths. Although when very young, the soft cloth is enough.

A soft cloth is recommended for babies, at least until they have most of their teeth. Just use water, wet the cloth, & gently wipe over her gums : )

I would not use any kind of tooth paste until about 18m or later.  Just a wet cloth or super soft baby brush with water will do.  The sooner the better as she will get used to it, vs waiting and it possibly becoming a struggle when they are older.

As Izzy said a soft cloth is a good way to clean bubs teeth or a baby tooth brush but not toothpaste until she is older.

you can use a wet wash cloth if you want, for now. But there are also finger brushes that parents can use.

I started 'brushing' my son's teeth from 4 months... not that he actually had any at that stage but he started getting the sore gums in preparation for the teeth!  I just gently brushed his gums with a baby toothbrush and water and he loved it. My son got his first tooth at 51/2 months and I started using a baby toothpaste at 6 months.

Re: tooth brushes for bubs

Now is a great time to start with teethbrushing.  There are special baby brushes out there that can be used from 4 months.  Put a little water on it and brush away.  Warning, she will chew it and suck on it for a while, so no toothpaste until she is a little older.

You can get the rubber tooth brush for her to chew on. I can't remember the brand but they have a round plastic disc....to stop them shoving it down their throat. My son would sit in the high chair chewing on it. Great to help the gums too.
