My oldest asked to "wee like dad" at 15 months - we decided to wait though as we had a new bub about to come. So the day we got home with his little brother he asked again (he was 17 1/2 months) and he never wore a nappy during the day again, there were lots of accidents of course but he night trained himself before he was day trained fully too. The poo side took longer but he was wee trained by 20 months. My youngest is now 15 months & wees in the toilet 2-4 times a day & has pooed in the toilet since 6 months as he would scream until you took his nappy off & sat him there.
All kids are different though, you need to take it as it comes & watch for signs of them knowing they need to go or being interested. Once you start though never stop - don't put nappies back on.
This varies from child to child, but usually around 18m-3years. My girl was 12m when she was potty trained. The best thing to look for is to see it they have any intrest in the toilet. Whether they let you know if they have a dirty diaper and being able to say or motion a few actions. Good Luck!
i let my daughter guide me to a degree...
she was dry in the day by two and a half and at night by three.
i took it slowly and she told me when she didn't want to wear nappies!
good luck xxxx.
Our children have been around us using the toilet from birth, so they have a good idea what it is all about. Doesn't mean they are going to be out of nappies sooner, just means they are more used to the act.
Our oldest was almost 4 before ditching the nappies. Our now 4 year old is still in nappies at night. Our 2 year old is already showing signs of being out of nappies soon and our 1 year old is way off it.
Every child is different and it is not advisable to push your child too hard or fast as this can cause long term issues with the toilet or potty.
My son was about 2-2 1/2 when we started toilet training him. He was fine going on the potty doing a wee but doing no. 2 he refused to go on the potty and wanted a nappy. He was about 3 - 3 1/2 when he was ok to go on the toilet to do no.2 but it was such a challenge as he would sit there crying and screaming and holding it in.
At present im starting to try and toilet train my 2 year old. She is now showing indications that she is about to do a wee and actually holds it till she cant hold no more. She would come up to me asking for a new nappy but when i check she is completely dry but she would scream and cry asking to change her. I would pretend to change her and eventually she does wee after 3 or so times pretending to change her. She refuses to go on the potty so I wont force her. I'll just have to wait till she is ready. Hmmm...
My daughter started at two, she had become aware of when she weed and was refusing to wear a nappy, so potty training had to happen. Don't worry if it happens later though I know most of my friends children have averaged around 2 and half, and boys tend to be later than girls. Em x
They can start from any age once they start walking. Usually the child will show indications that he/she is ready to be trained, like saying 'wee' when they do one.
Most common age for training is around 2. By that age they are normally walking & can understand what is going on quite well. But all babies are different. My first trained at around 2 as she didn't walk til she was 17 months. My others were between 1 1/2 & 2.
If you think your little one is ready go for it. If there's too many problems wait a while longer.
