But I am pregnant and have been constipated.
I have been eating some prunes but it doesnt appear to be doing anything. Does anyone have anything else I could try?
I only want natural things as I am pretty sure this is common since all my bowel etc are squished and constantly being beaten from the inside.
Thanks guys.
buy yourself some phsyillium, its cheap and natural and you should find it in your cereal isle next to oats & bran (pretty sure). It will last you ages, and all you have to do is put a little teaspoon in yoghurt or in your cereal. I have porridge most mornings and mix it in there or you can actually just mix some with a little warm water or milk and drink it straight. It actually aids in helping the bowel to absorb water, therefor helping you go. Also dont push when you go, make sure you raise your heels, lean forward slightly and blow out long and slow from your mouth which should be relaxed and ever so lightly open for the air to escape,as if blowing a candle out, just practice while your sitting there, you should feel your muscles in your side working. slowly but surely you should poo effortlessly
Eat lots of pears, apricots and prunes - avoid apples all together. I like the idea of the fruchocs - perfect for the cravings too, LOL! Try and eat wholemeal bread, pasta and rice to increase your fibre intake and taking Omega3 can also help & is good for you and your babies brain development. Good luck!
I too have been suffering from constipation and found that having more fibre and drinking more water has helped, you could also try a stool softening med such as lactolose but you should consult your pharmacist first.
Omega 3 Fish Oil capsuals, will also make your baby smarter LOL. Like the old days when Our grandparents made our parents have Cod Liver Oil, this stuff works the same way, it's also very good for you and baby. better still, it gets rid of the first hard bit that a lot of other remedies don't, usually you still have to push through a painful first bit and the rest is moosh, but fish oil caps, soften all the way through..... I learned from experience on this one and am getting in early this time LOL. Also great to add to babies formula if they get stopped up but only half a capsual (I snip the top off and add it to milk) Just like buying the expensive formula with added omega 3. Dont give to babies every day though as it will give them the runs if you do so just when neccessary.
hehe i remember eating a large amout of dried apricaots and drinking a lot of pineapple juice seemed to really get things moving but that was just me. try adn eat more fibre. if you can't seem to do that then youcan try added fibre like benefibre. i've had it mixed into a glass of water are you can't taste it, it doesn't even go thick like metamucil. keep well hydrated, if you need water, your body will take it from whereever it can find it. and i've also heard liquorice helps move things along aswell, same with prunes.
Have the same problem and found it is due to my multivitamin. It is ok to take a fibre supplement like Matamucil in pregnancy. it is just a fibre booster, not a laxative, so might help. Double your water intake too, helps alot, though you will still spend just as much time on the toilet! lmao! Us preggy ladies could break the drought! lol.
When i was pregnant with the twins i had a lot of trouble too, because it was Christmas time i was eating Rum Balls (way too many i think) and believe it or not it helped my constipation heaps. I think it was because the recipe i had made them from Weet-Bix and i think the coconut in them helped move things along too. Also it was suggested to me by my midwife to use a small step stool in the toilet, when i sat i put my feet on it and for some reason this helped too. Maybe you could try a not so ripe banana, not too green but just before it is ripe, i did that after having my 1st becasue i was so scared the 1st time going to the loo after labour! Good luck and i hope things get better soon!
good breaky (wheaties) and an apple or some grapes. and a good walk, long enough to make you puff a little but not to exaustion. worked great when i was in the last months of pregnancy, tis a good routine to get into for after baby is born too. just keep an eye on the odema if you have it though. ::)'s
Try a high firbre breakfast such as toasted muesli and sultanas. I found Uncle Toby's Bowel & Digestive Health great - plus I added extra sultanas and LSA (Linseed Sunflower and Almond)
Fibre! Try to eat lots of healthy cereal, things like oats. Other grains as well whereever you can add it to your diet. Also try to drink LOTS of water, at least 2 litres if you can. A tummy massage might help move things along too. There is a natural laxative that looks like birdseed lol, probably check out the health food shop. Hope this helps.
