pregnant and sore kidneys

Hi, Im nearly 32weeks pregnant and the last 2weeks or so when i go to the toilet to urinate, just before i finish, my lower back hurts??? Is this my kidneys??? Its not a painful pain, just enough to let me feel it and it only lasts till i stand back up..I do hold in my pee sometimes cos i get sick of going all the time, so could this be from my kidneys finally being relieved when i go??

Any help would be great, Thanks.

Re: pregnant and sore kidneys

I would say you are getting this feeling because the extra pressure is taken away when you wee.  The relief a trip to the toilet can bring us sometimes is amazing! lol.

If there were an issue with your kidneys, then you would be in constant pain, weeing would actually burn and you would be quite sick from it too.,

Have you noticed if you push your hand into the small of your back you can get bubs to move?  Or is it just something I have to put up with? lol.

Re: pregnant and sore kidneys

This sounds familiar.  I never had an UTI with these pains.  What they ended up being were contractions.  I asked the nurse about it and she said that that when you get into the later stages of pregnancy when ever you go to the bathroom the emptying of the bladder causes the uterus to shift a bit, and triggerst tha contraction.  Same if you go #2 and you have to strain.  I had it alot and boy was it annoying.  Good luck and hope you get some relief what ever it is.

Hi honey,
I remember when i was pregnant with emily i had those pains as well.
I would say it is a urinary tract infection, so my advice to you is to start drinking cranberry juice with a bit of water OR with lemonade. Also go to the doctors just incase you need antibiotics - keflex is the best for pregnant women.
Also, after you have intercourse go and have a wee. This decreases your chances of getting UTI's and yeast infections (thrush).
Take care!

Re: pregnant and sore kidneys

when I was pregnant I worked at a job where we were SO busy it was a major pain to get up and go to the bathroom, so I often held it in like you do--and my doctor told me in no uncertain terms that I was NOT to do that anymore.

He said that holding it in can cause the UTIs, and also he said that there was a chance that stretching my bladder in that manner could lead to more stress incontinence in the third trimester and after birth.

If you're still drinking caffeinated beverages, you should cut down on them, because they have a diuretic effect and make you have to pee more often.  That might help the frequency.

Just a heads up. ;)
