No one can beat my bf's mother! Yes you can stay away from her if she is giving you grief. You chose to be with him, not her. I tried my hardest to be nice and get along with Mummy Dearest as I sarcastically call her, but in the end blatently told her to shove it and haven't heard anything since. Life is so peaceful and happy now. LOL

I think the reason you are disliking your mother in law is because she is trying to take over.  It happens sometimes and you and your husband need to set down ground rules.

grandparents have no rights to their grandkids, unless they have custody, so it is upto you how much or how little contact you have with the inlaws (or should be saying outlaws now).

I am very lucky that my Mother in Law passed on before my partner and I got together, so have never had this issue before, but I did have friends who's parents were always trying to interfere in my life, so do understand how you feel.

i am in the same book as you chicki, apart from it is MY mum not his. My mum wanted me to get an abortion and spred rumors at my wedding that my hubby beat me up. she tells my kids that there dad is a F****n loser and he is a good for nothing male as well as a few other things.

to be honest the way hubby and i deal with my mum is we completely ignor her and dont let her in our life anymore. she cant even stop smoking around my daughter who is allergic and stops breathing to smoke.

all you can do is be there for your hubby and love him. like i said ignore her and dont let her know she upsets you.

You could do with a book I have - 99 1/2 Things To Do With Your Mother-In-Law - it's hilarious! I feel for you, though. Have you talked to your hubby about it? Explain how you feel & why.

Then maybe you could both talk to her. Ask her why she acts the way she does. Assure her that he son will always be there for her but she has to respect the fact that he is grown up & has his own life to lead, too. Before talking to her, go over it with your hubby, working out the best way to put it all to her so as not to upset her.
