It can be anywhere from 9m (avg) all the way up to 15m. It's really up to the baby and when they feel strong enough and are able to balance themselves on their own.
Miss Cheeky Chops started walking when she was around 15 months. She is a very tall girl for her age 3 1/2 (about a head difference in height) and so it has been a little harder for her to find her center of gravity. Even now at preschool she has trouble with some balancing activities -her feet are to big for her and she is still taller than her peers.
Every child is different and therefore will progress differently.
there is a actually a big range for this and still be in the normal range. Experts say the range for walking is from 9 months to 18 months. Of course parents would have to take into account the baby's overall mobility. At 18 months, one would be concerned if the baby isn't pulling up, cruising, etc. But if baby is just simply too stubborn to walk, that wouldn't be as alarming.
My son walked at 10 months. He walked for short distance if he is distracted, but once he realized we weren't holding on to him, he stopped and cried. At 11 months, he was properly motivated by a shiny red elderly walker adn so he walked 10 feet by himself. On the other hand, my twins are now 11 months old and they are just strating to pull up.
All children are different, my eldest started walking on her first birthday, I have a friend who's son was 9 mths. Unfortunately there is no set time they will walk, they will do it when they are ready.
Yes, that's right, all different. My first didn' t walk til 17 months. My son was on his feet at 8 months & walked around the room holding onto to things, but didn't let go til 14 months. My youngest walked at about 10 months.
Remember you can encourage your child to crawl & walk but do not force them. If you try to make a child crawl or walk before they are ready you can damage their spine & their co-ordination.
My BIL walked at 10mths, and his daughter walked at 12 mths, my sisters kids walked at approx 14 mths. My nearly 11mth old is yet to walk but is walking holding on to furntiure!
