I want to buy my 7 year old nephew a great book that he'll treasure. Anyone got any recommendations (including a link to a site I can order it from)? Note I'm offering m$2500 to the best suggestion (ie the one I end up buying).
My daughter loves Possum Magic!!! She's had it since she was about 2 and still gets great enjoyment from it. For me it was Animalia by Graeme Base. I still love it and have kept it since I was about 10....... it's book that never ages!!!
Possum Magic is a lovely story and Animalia is a great book too. Another favourite for me is The Hungry Caterpillar and I found books by Pamela Allen to be really good stories for children primary school age and younger.
forgot to mention that you can buy them from shops like Angus and Robertson, Big w and Kmart. I have even bought book packs of Pamela Allen stories(4 for $10) at the post office...really good value.
I had forgotten all about Pamela Andersons books. They're fantastic!!!! I just remembered the Mister Men series as well. Easy to read and G used to laugh out loud when she was younger. I know, probably a little to young for a 7 year old but I still love 'em hehe
there's a few out there at the moment, adn they come with freebies.
there's, I spy spooky night, which has a bonus cd/rom that goes with it, so it'll help with his computer skills aswell. nosepickers fro outerspace has 4 books in the series and captain underpants, it's got 4 books to the series aswell and bonus whoopee cushion (lovely times for kiddo, bad times for you :P), you can get these form amazon.com
AAAGH - Just typed out a lengthy answer and then lost it. These suggestions are all great - we love Rascal, as well as anything to do with dragons, heroes, pirates and animals. It really depends what he is into. The 2 other books we are going back to again and again are "Where the Dragon" and "1001 things to find". However I wonder too if you have thought about some reference books, like these from DK (p48). You can get most of these from Angus & Robertson, Dymocks and Amazon (all online), but I would also check out QBD, booktopia, abc shop and of course, ebay.
Horrid Henry is all the rage with the boy's over here. A little boy who does not set out to be horrible but life gets in the way, very funny and great for encouraging independant reading. http://www.orionbooks.co.uk/777-0/Author-Francesca-Simon.htm link to the author.
He's written a heap of fantastic books for kid's. My son likes the Rascal series as he can read them himself, although they are now too easy for him so I may have to get some harder ones now.
